Taylor Swift accepted the award for Artist of the Year, and during her acceptance speech, she mentioned how frequently releasing music keeps her happy and thanked her fans for continuously supporting her and showing an immense love for her. Taylor Swift has released five albums in the past three years.

She stated in her acceptance speech that she has released more music than she did in the previous decade, and she attributes this to the fact that her fans expressed a desire to hear more of her music. The singer went on to say that her fans are extremely supportive, and she tries to find that the more songs she produces and releases, the more cheerful she becomes, so she decided to keep that channel open and just managed to keep on creating and making music. Taylor went on to say that everything is possible because of the fans, for her happiness, and that she loves every one of them more than she can express.

Taylor lastly added that she cannot express how unbelievable it is to her that she still gets to do this and that the fans still care, so thank you—underlined with 13 exclamation points. She doesn't know what to say except that she loves them. Taylor Swift also won best music video for All Too Well: The Short Film, best female pop artist, best female country artist, best pop album, and best country album for Red (Taylor's Version).

Chris Brown, who won the Favorite Male R&B Artist award, was not present at the ceremony, but Kelly Rowland accepted the award on his behalf even though she received a lot of boos from the crowd. She stated that Chris Brown is not here tonight, so she will be accepting the award on his behalf, and added that she just wants to say thank you to Chris for making great music and for being an incredible performer. Due to the optics of Chris Brown, who admitted guilt to attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna the evening before the Grammy Awards in 2009, the American Music Awards decided to cancel the Michael Jackson tribute at the last moment, supposed to lead to a tribute to Michael Jackson, who encountered a criminal trial for child sex abuse in 2005 but was acquitted.

According to Puck, despite the reservations of the show's executive producers Jesse Collins and Stephen Hill, Chris Brown's act of paying a tribute to Michael Jackson was deemed unacceptable even thou the network was not opposed to it.  A representative for the show's producer, Dick Clark Productions, told Puck that live performances change constantly; it's the nature of the industry. Unfortunately, this aspect of the AMAs did not come together because they couldn't agree on the performance, which was not Chris Brown's fault.

Congratulations to the winners.
