The 38th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards will take place on the beach in Santa Monica on March 4, 2023. The awards will recognize the year's best independent films and television shows. The Independent Spirits will be broadcasted worldwide across multiple digital and online platforms this year, as there will be no TV outlet.

Josh Welsh, President of Film Independent, stated that as the television landscape evolves, independent artists broaden the idea as to how stories can indeed be told and are appreciative to evolve with it. Josh added that they keep hoping to effectively reflect the variety of fantastic work created by these great artists with their categories and gender-neutral acting awards.
