The 76th annual British Academy Film Awards were held on February 19, 2023, at the Royal Festival Hall within London's Southbank Centre. The ceremony took place at the Royal Albert Hall for the very first time ever since 69th British Academy Film Awards (2016).
The ceremony, hosted by Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond and presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, is held to honor the best national and foreign films of 2022. The nominees were revealed on 19 January 2023 via a global live stream from the arts charity's newly redeveloped headquarters at 195 Piccadilly, London, hosted by actors Hayley Atwell and Toheeb Jimoh. The nominations for the EE Rising Star Award, the only category in which the British public votes, were declared on January 17, 2023.
On Sunday evening, Queen Elizabeth II's grandson Prince William and his wife the Princess of Wales attended a performance at the Royal Festival Hall. The prince serves as honorary president of BAFTA. BAFTA Chair Krishnendu Majumdar discussed the film organization's push to broaden its nominees and winners in his pre-broadcast speech in the evening, instituting over a hundred changes to its rules to ensure more representative selections. However, despite a diverse list of nominations, there were no significant wins by people of color in the "big six" categories, reigniting debate about the success of its efforts.

BEST FILM
“All Quiet On The Western Front” – Malte Grunert
All Quiet On The Western Front was the night's big winner, taking home awards in all of the major categories, making it one of the most recognized films not in English in BAFTA history. In his commencement address for Best Director, director Edward Berger stated that directing is not an exact science and that he constantly asks himself questions such as "should he do this movie, are people going to want to see it?" He proceeded on to praise fellow directors such as Gina, Todd Field, Park Chan-wook, Mart McDonagh, and the Daniels, asserting that their films are extremely powerful and motivate him so much.
When he went home, he wanted to discuss it at the dinner table, and when his daughter heard the title, she said that he had no choice but to do it. According to the director, his daughter told him she had read the novel in school and persuaded him to take on the project. He thanked Matlida for turning his doubts into faith and confidence and convincing him to make the film, and he also thanked Tolley Shields, Lisa Taback, Kelly Dalton, Jennifer Peterson, and Claire Wilson for constantly pushing their film.
Edward also thanked his crew and mentioned that they have contributed so much to the movie and made the movie with their craft. He also thanked BAFTA and stated that it was a huge honor.
Congratulations to the winners.
