Tom Hardy, soon to be seen in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, is a versatile actor who quickly rose to fame with his solid acting prowess in Hollywood. Beginning with his debut role as Twombly in Black Hawk Down, the 2001 Army rangers film, Hardy managed to make a distinct mark with his subsequent film quests that have only added up to his popularity. Usually seen with a strong build and in action flicks, Tom Hardy has played it all from heroic to villainous and morally grey characters. Here is a list of the best characters played by Tom Hardy that you will surely want to watch.

The film features the portrayal of a monstrous fusion of an extraterrestrial being with Eddie Broke, an online show host and investigative reporter who takes down the corporate world's bad men. The symbiotic fusion occurs when Eddie tries to find evidence on human trials, possibly trailing them back to the CEO of Life Foundation, Carlton. Hence, he becomes Venom. The broad comedy element in the film leams strongly towards fun and laughs with the occasional action scenes that will have you on edge.

Dunkirk (2017)

Tom Hardy does well in army roles, and Dunkirk is proof of that. A film depicting the pitiful plight of World War II, the story revolves around the army of the British Empire, Belgium, and France trying to evacuate before the German forces hit at full force. The tense scenes of the film and Hardy's very correct portrayal of desperation, determination, and sacrifice adds much more credibility to the role of Hardi as a lone RAF pilot who puts himself in the way of danger to aid the evacuation process. The character is also phenomenal because RAF was usually the first to be criticized when missions went wrong, blaming them for flimsy air cover.

Inception (2010)

The one-of-a-kind psychological thriller has acclaimed a lot of positive reviews around the globe, and Tom Hardy's character was one of the most fetching parts of the movie. A member of Cobb's group that enters the minds of people to steal information, Hardy is given the role of leaving an idea in a business tycoon's head that could break his empire. Eames, played by Tom Hardy, can camouflage theft which ultimately helps when stealing information from unsuspecting people. One of the most distinct roles played by Hardy where muscle power isn't the main focus, the sophistication of the character sure deserves appreciation.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The muscle-packed action flick definitely demands some heavy lifting from Hardy's side, and he did just that. Starring as Bane in the Dark Knight Rises, the last of the Dark Knight series by Nolan, Hardy goes against Batman, disturbing the peace of Gotham City and forcing the superhero to come out again. With a peculiar leather contraption to hide his severe disfigurement, Hardy carries off the role nicely till the end, leading his army to ensure maximum destruction.

The Revenant

Starring as the villain against Leonardo DiCaprio's hero, Hardy did exceptional work as the bad guy in The Revenant. Portraying the character of John Fitzgerald, the evil guy chooses to leave High Glass trapped underground when the group is attacked by a warrior tribe. Being a true villain, he has the audacity of asking for extra pay just because he believes that he gave Hugh Glass a Christian burial. But Hugh is alive and back for revenge leading intensely to their final confrontation.

Warrior (2011)

The Warrior is the story of two brothers, one returning from deployment in Iraq as a war veteran and the other one just his shadow. Tommy, the war veteran, comes home to his alcoholic dad, and eventually, they find common ground, teaching Tommy a mixed martial arts contest. However, the true drama only begins when he faces his younger brother in the ring, and losing is not an option.

Rocknrolla (2008)

The film follows along with the story of a multi-million scam in the real estate industry of the city, which of course, drags the attention of a roofie group that wishes the money for itself. However, the real fun begins when an unexpected aspirant of the cash joins the race, and now it's all about who is smart enough to con the others and claim the stash for themselves.

Locke (2013)

A bit different from Hardy's usual roles as the tough guy, Locke brought out his sensitivity and suppressed qualities that weren't able to come out in war films or action flicks. The part is of a British construction manager becoming vulnerable enough to agree that some things in his marriage and profession are not working for him, despite setting an excellent record of a hardworking man. The film is shot from the viewpoint of a hands-free car cam positioned on the dashboard, recording as the construction manager talks to a few important people from his life.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Hardy gathered a great fan base from the portrayal of Max Rockatansky, a former interceptor lawman who lost his wife and child in the post-apocalyptic world. The film features a warlord controlling the Australian desert and claiming sole rights over oils, water, bullets, and milk, namely everything essential to live in a post-apocalyptic world. Max is made captive and taken into a prison from where he escapes along with Charlize Theron. The young lady is fighting against women of the on-screen world from being kept captive and treated like farm animals and hence joins Max to overthrow everything that threatens their world.

This Means War (2012)

Filled with guffaw-worthy punchlines and laughs, This Means War is a much lighter film than you would guess from its name. The story revolves around two federal agents trying to woo over Reese Witherspoon. The shameless creeps use all their work spyware to spy on the other as they attend dates and win over the lady.

The Drop (2014)

Tom Hardy, cast in the lead of The Drop as the hero, is a moving film based on Dennis Lehane's novel. The story follows the plot of a Boston crime in which Hardy becomes involved. He is portrayed as a simple enough guy, sweet and normal, who is named Bob and mans a local bar. Only when he rescues a puppy from a nearby trash can does he come tangled in unfortunate events and learn that the bar is used as a drop-off point for local junkies. The film shows Hardy in a sensitive spot, afraid of offending the church and bullied by cops who question him. It is also one of Hardy's most vulnerable characters.

Marie Antoinette (2006)

Credits: Screen Rant

A seemingly small yet impressionable role in the film as Raumont, Hardy plays a curious young guy looking behind the scenes of political workings. However, he isn't in a position where he can demand answers at Marie Antoniette's court. The role is a far cry from Hardy's muscle-packed looks that would come in the later years, but he did distinguishable work even in the hardly-there part.
