The story is based on a Central Park jogger case involving rape and innocent convicts that draws sharp focus to the United States legal system and its various drawbacks. As said by Alison Foreman from Entertainment Reporter, the cast members "Asante Black, Caleel Harris, Ethan Herisse, Jharrel Jerome, and Marquis Rodriguez stun as young men trapped in an institution designed to work against them. A look back into the disco era and into the lives of real hip-hop legends like DJ Cool Herc, The Get Down deals with the hip-hop icons of the past. The musical series features original numbers by Sia, Janelle Monae, and Christina Aguilera. Alexis Nedd says that the series has "'70s hits like "Bad Girls," "Ball of Confusion," and in the series' most triumphant moment, the iconic theme from Star Wars. Its flashy visuals don't distract from the show's huge heart, making the show as joyous and hard-hitting as the rap albums its style emulates."

American Vandal

The series is a comical parody that features a storyline basically revolving around a person who drew penises in their high school parking lot. The serious acting with no fake laughter in the background is essentially what makes the whole thing so compellingly comic and yet highly catchy. Angie Han writes that "what started as a puerile spoof about the eternal hilarity of dick jokes eventually reveals itself to be a surprisingly empathetic exploration of adolescence...that still finds plenty of time to snicker about poop or penises because come on."

Dear White People

The series brings focus to the Black community as a set of people with real lives just like anyone other than comedic relief best friend or the token Black gay guy. They get through their daily issues just like anyone else, struggle with family, work, and love, and are real three-dimensional people. The story focus on Winchester University that continue to transverse their student years with as much drama as any other person out there. Promo Kholsa said that "It is a crash course in modern racial dynamics wrapped in some of the sharpest comedy you can find. You'll quickly be drawn into the Winchester bubble and unable to shake it off when you leave."

The plotline revolves around a young woman, Esty Shapiro, played by Shira Haas. She travels to her mother in Berlin after escaping an ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish community from her marriage. On the other hand, her husband is agitated along with his family and tries to find Esty, who just got to experience a whole other life. Kellen Beck, talking about how endearing an experience to learn about a community that thrives in the society, said, "It pulls on knowledge from people who have been in or around these communities to help with sets, speech, attire, and moments as authentic as possible. Parts of the show feel like stepping into a period piece, but it's the reality of modern ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish communities."

The Crown

Who knew the British royal family came with so many problems and issues? The Crown hit big at the Emmys this year, and even without a serious quantity of awards to its name, the series proves to be a pretty captivating watch. Featuring the life of Queen Elizabeth in her younger years and then older, the show sheds light on one of the most famous yet reserved families, its dynamics, and relationships. Eric Strecker reviewed, "The series is at its best when it explores the quiet moments that must have followed the big public headlines about news events you know." Talking about the irreplaceable cast, he said, "Foy and Colman both so easily make a meal out of just a head turn, a raised eyebrow, or a single tear," and remarks that "the biggest applause must be held for the meaty monologues about God, family, and country."

Stranger Things

There are only a few shows that feature a significant amount of children in the cast and yet deliver to an audience of adults that you could those on your fingers. The sci-fi thriller is built on a strong plot of children that are able to do some incredible feats with supernatural powers. Ranging from government conspiracies and coming of age themes, the show is a true delight to watch if action and supernatural is your choice of genre. Talking about the thrill of the seasons, Kelly Beck said, "As the seasons go on, the threats morph, but that element of horror and unabashed '80s stays strong, giving Stranger Things a really strong and (mostly) consistent sense of style and narrative."

Marveling at the sheer brilliance of the series, Allison Foreman says, "It's rare that depictions of high school sexual exploits do anything but make you cringe. And yet, in the world of Sex Education, these scenes are the bedrock of a blissfully understanding, caring, and ever-evolving world that presents the best of the best in acceptance."
