Roar is an exceptional take on a multi-genre series featuring different and varied stories and characters as they live through a myriad of unique experiences. The series is created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, also the creator of Glow.

The Apple TV+ show is an anthology series featuring eight episodes ranging over a different narrative each time. In the episode "The Woman Who Solved Her Own Murder," the series star Alison Brie as a woman who helps solve the mystery of her murder from the other side of the grave.

The actress sat with Collider recently and opened up about her acting experience, how she resonated with Flahive and Mensch, and also what made her sign up for this project. As Alison's character is practically dead in the series, she does not get to physically interact with other actors or characters from her episode and yet helps find out what led to her murder.

She talked about the 30-minute episode she starred in Roar, her experience on GLOW, and more about the series and its ending. She also shared her love for the film Clue and her appreciation for having worked with the cast.

Opening about her love for the film and a possible remake, she shared that she had always wanted to play Miss Scarlet. On the other hand, Mrs. White is a character whom no one could have done better justice than Madeline Kahn. So while she would have loved to play the character, she thinks it is not possible for her.

Alison Brie did connect with Lesley Ann Warren, the actress who played Miss Scarlet in the original production and also played Gillian Jacob's mother in Community, another production Alison Brie starred in. The season also featured a debut by Colonel Mustard, played by Martin Mull

Seeing her favorite characters from Clue on the sets of Community felt surreal to her. In fact, she is so obsessed with them that she could only refer to them by their Clue names and thought it was great that she could get to meet them.

Coming to Roar, the actress did not have to audition for her role in the series and was directly approached by Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive as she had already collaborated with them earlier. Receiving roles out of the blue could be scary for actors as they wouldn't really know if they will like the character or not, but Brie shared that she was not nervous when approached with a role for Roar.

She revealed that she has great adoration for both the creators and they had a great time working on GLOW together. She was sure they would not disappoint her and was pleasantly surprised when she came across the voice and the narration of her character in Roar.

The creators have always been refreshing in their take on the "female experience," and Roar was one way to embark on the journey. They showed similar creative brilliance back when they teamed up for GLOW.

So, when she received the call from the creators asking her to join them once again, her only reaction was to feel excited. Not only was she happy to work with them again but also excited to see all the other aspects of the series come together.

The show also stars phenomenal faces like Nicole Kidman, who was slated to produce and also star in an episode. Then there were others like Cynthia Erivo and Issa Rae. She revealed that she was already hooked with Roar as soon as she learned that Nicole Kidman is also attached to the anthology series.

The plot of the show is also one step too unique. The actress shared that her episode in the series was actually based on the book that inspired the show. She was sent the script for the rest of the episodes as well and also the original concept of her episode was, though it was inspired by the many other stories featured in the book.

Beginning with the preparation of her character, Brie revealed that she was given the freedom to explore more and pitch ideas that she thought could help with the portrayal of the role. She was asked to give her thoughts and ideas about it, and said it was exciting to set the tone and make it as unique as she could. She admitted it was a character she had never seen before.

Comparing her character in Rock and GLOW, Brie admitted that both the roles were extremely weird. For instance, the entire time in Rock, Brie had to portray the role in her "dead body outfit." It was totally bizarre to act in such a way, and the only other weirder role she could think of was her role of Zoya as Scrooge in GLOW.

Being a dead character, she was barred from interacting with other characters in her episode, and that truly tested her patience. It meant she was going completely solo, and no other actor was there to react to her and carry the action. She was all that balanced her act.

Being completely alone in her scenes meant she had to connect with herself and experience it as an actor. She was entirely cocooned from the rest of the world of the episode, invisible and inaudible, unable to carry anything as she could have.

Portraying such a character was truly uncanny for her as she felt like a true, transparent ghost that people would simply look through. Not only did she not get to interact with others, but even the other actors had to perform in similarly singular situations. The actress shared that the episode honestly brings out the best all these actors had to offer.
