Amanda Seyfried is an Oscar-nominated actress who has two children with her husband Thomas Sadoski: Nina, 4, and a one-year-old son, whom she gave birth to in September 2020. She recently spoke up about ‘postpartum depression and shared her coping techniques with PEOPLE.

At the screening of "A Mouthful of Air" on Sunday night at the Roxy Hotel in New York City, she shared about her delivery and mentioned, "I had something that went wrong with my second birth. The baby was okay, but it was tricky, and it was painful. It didn't have to happen, and it did, so it added an extra level of trauma. "

The actress said that she and her husband had to juggle their two children while also struggling with her spinal challenges. She added, "You just do. At that point, I was very fresh out of the hospital, I had to feed him, my husband was with my daughter and I had people that could drive me back to the hospital. "

The coupled announced the arrival of the son with a statement, "Our devotion to the innocent children who are so brutally harmed by violence and war has been a driving force in our lives since the birth of our daughter three years ago. The work of INARA and War Child has become our North Star since the birth of our son."

Talking about her struggle with the delivery, she shared that it included the abrupt cessation of regular health care visits which were coupled up with handling multiple medical invoices while recovering, "I went to the doctor every week at the end of my pregnancy and all of a sudden it's like, 'Bye, here are some hospital bills!' I mean, I kept receiving them, and I'm still healing from something."

In 2016, Amanda Seyfried shared in an interview with Allure that she had been taking medication for OCD since she was 19-years-old. Continuing further with sharing her techniques for preventing postpartum depression, she said, "I was terrified of suffering from postpartum depression. I ended up doing a lot of CBT therapy before I had my first kid, and then I was really lucky. I didn't suffer from any depression, and I felt like I had won in some way, " she says. "It was hard, and it was so hard the struggle, but it wasn't anything I didn't think I could handle. And with my second kid, that's partly because I was on my medication and I never got off of it."

The actress also shared that working on her new movie, "A Mouthful of Air,", helped her to have a greater understanding of postpartum depression. She shared that people can find places to get help and talk about their struggles, but she also mentioned that it is costly, cost-prohibitive, and not accessible. She further added, "It’s still something that feels so hidden. Every movie like this is important, and this film is told from a really, really compassionate point of view from the character that I play. That’s why I did it. "

Amanda Seyfried married Thomas Sadoski in 2017 and shared that she is still coping with a pre-schooler and a baby, confessing that there is never enough time. The actress added, "It’s crazy, two is different from one, but I’m really lucky, and my mom lives with us. I can’t believe I’m out and about talking this movie. It’s taken a long time to make, and it’s a tough subject. " "She's the most nurturing, kind, fun, thoughtful. The best values that you could have, she has", Amanda shared about her daughter.

Amanda Seyfried is remembered for her iconic role in the now-classic movie, "Mean Girls," and she loves to talk about the movie. Amanda shared, "I love it when people talk about it. It made people feel like they had a place. Hopefully, this movie will do the same."

Producers Trudier Styler and Celine Rattray and directed by Amy Koppelman along with Donna Karan, Joanna Coles, and Alysia Reiner, produce "A Mouthful of Air". The movie follows Julie (Seyfried) who is married to Ethan (Finn Wittrock), is a new mom and children’s book author, who escapes into the bright Crayola-colored world of her creation to leave behind the darkness caused by her postpartum depression. Finn Wittrock who plays Amanda's husband in the movie states, "Amanda talks about how hard it was to get this movie made at all, because it’s kind of a thing people just don’t want to deal with. So yes, I’m sure it will be depressing in some way. But the hope is that it’s a catalyst to start a broader conversation". The actor further added about his experience with the movie by quoting, "I felt very excited to delve into those waters. Working with Amanda was a huge incentive, as was working with Amy Koppelman, the director-writer. As dark as this movie is, it’s filled with a lot of joy, lightheartedness and playfulness. I found that dichotomy between those two things fascinating. "
