Andrew Garfield has recently opened up about a rejection he faced in his career, which was based on the way he looked.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Andrew Garfield shared that he was ‘desperate’ to join Disney’s ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ franchise as he auditioned for the part of Prince Caspian when he was just starting his career in the industry. But as he shared with the publication that he was rejected by the casting team who believed that Andrew Garfield was not ‘good looking’ enough for the part.

Andrew said, “I remember I was so desperate. I auditioned for Prince Caspian in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and I thought, ‘This could be it, this could be it’. And that handsome, brilliant actor Ben Barnes ended up getting the role. I think it was down to me and him, and I remember I was obsessed.” After Andrew Garfield got the news that Ben Barnes has been selected for the part, he asked his agent about what went wrong to which she said, “It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew.”

The Spiderman actor further clarified, Ben Barnes is a very handsome, talented man. So in retrospect, I’m not unhappy with the decision and I think he did a beautiful job.”

The first installment of fantasy novel-based movie, ‘Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' were released in 2005. C.S. Lewis writes about four siblings who enter the magical land of ‘Narnia’ through a wardrobe in the novel. The sequel movie titled, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, was released in 2008 and is centered on the character of Prince Caspian teaming up with the four siblings to overthrow an evil ruler.

During his interview, Andrew also shared that he has had experienced a big spell of unemployment before he made it big in the industry. The actor shared, "I had a year and a half of waiting tables and working at Starbucks.” Andrew’s breakthrough performance is known as Eduardo Saverin, Facebook co-founder in 2010’s ‘The Social Network’ alongside Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg. Eduardo Saverin earned Andrew Garfield his first Golden Globes nomination for best supporting actor in a motion picture. And then followed his debut as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man’, reboot alongside Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and the two actors also reprised their roles in the sequel movie which was released in 2014.

Andrew Garfield received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his immensely apt performance as WWII medic in ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, and for starring in the Broadway show, ‘Angles in America’, Andrew has received a Tony Award. He was recently seen in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ reprising his role as Spider-Man for a cameo. The actor also recently won a Golden Globe for his recently released and critically acclaimed movie, ‘Tick Tick…Boom!’, in which he is portraying the character of composer and playwright Jonathan Larson.

Sharing his experience of playing Jonathan Larson, the actor shared, "I remember the first time we screened the film for a SAG audience, and we were in Los Angeles, I think it was the day after our premiere, and I remember being in the hallway before we were gonna do our Q&A after, and I was with [Lin-Manuel Miranda] and the rest of the company, and I turned to Lin and said, 'I have a feeling this is gonna be a special night,' because everyone in that audience -- this is their story. Everyone who's ever held a SAG card, everyone who's ever been as audacious to follow their own dream -- whether it was artistic or otherwise -- this is their story. This is our story. It just so happens to be through this symbolic lens of Jonathan Larson, who happened to be the quintessential, devoted artist who could not let go of his own, very particular, unique thread that pulled him into life, and that he knew he had to leave behind all of his giftedness. And I think we all have a sense of that. We all have the opportunity to live that way, and I think that's one of the reasons that it's connecting with people in a way that goes beyond a film."

On asking about how did he feel about wearing his Spider-Man costume once again, Andrew said, “Never Say Never. It's a character that's always going to be so meaningful to me, and so beautiful to me and again, it comes back to service. I think if there's a way, because that's what that character is all about, he's all about serving the greater good and serving his fellow people, serving humanity and all life. So, if there's a way for me to continue to add to the legacy of that character in a way that feels like it's of service to an audience, of service to the themes that Stan Lee injected that character with, I'm open, of course, I'm very, very open, but it would have to be very, very special. It would have to be very, very meaningful and fun, and joyful, like doing No Way Home was. It's always going to be a part of me, whether I'm playing the character or not, I feel very connected to him.”
