Aquaman 2: Dolph Lundgren Confirms His Appearance In The Film

While the behind-the-scenes video of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry also known as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius aka Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane / Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and many more, was released that definitely did its role in hyping the fans and followers for the film, it did not confirm the appearance of Dolph Lundgren whose expected return in the role of King Nereus in the much-awaited film was long being speculated by the fans, based on various set photos that emerged online.

The 63-year-old actor Dolph Lundgren took to Instagram to confirm his role in the superhero blockbuster film Aquaman 2, he posted an image of himself in Nereus' like hair with the caption "Hanging out in my trailer on Aquaman 2. Great script, great director, terrific cast, and a fantastic crew. Really enjoying it!"

Lundgren portrayed the role of King Nereus in the superhit film Aquaman, which despite having mixed reactions from the critics as well as fans earned over a whopping $1 billion at the box office.

As confirmed by the film director James Wan himself in an interview that the film will offer a lot more on the table to the audience than its predecessor in regards to the complex storyline and comedy. "They look at trailers, and they can kind of look at posters, and they can kind of put things together, right? So the key is how do I stay ahead of audiences today that are so savvy, but at the same time still come up with things that people haven't quite seen before."

He went on to explain how he has approached the matter of staying on top of audience expectations, stating, "That's when I start to pull this away, and I start to take you on this electrifying journey, and it's that aspect that makes it fun for me. And it's not just my horror films. I tried to do that even in Fast and Furious 7, and to some degree in Aquaman, but definitely more so in Aquaman 2. There are more complexities in Aquaman 2 than in the first movie," he said.

The acclaimed director Wan did not go too much into the details about the film, but he did say he going all in for the film to make it the best." This is just stuff that I learned along the way, and it's what I find intriguing as a filmmaker, and I try to take everything that I've learned from each film and carry them with me to my next movie," he added.

While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was in development since 2019, the shooting of the film finally kicked off in June of this year with a big list of stars such as Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane / Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Randall Park as Doctor Stephen Shin, Jani Zhao as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon, Vincent Regan as Atlan, Regan as Graham McTavish and Pilou Asbæk.

Meant to be the 13th entry in the Detective Comics Extended Universe and a sequel to the Aquaman film released in 2018, it is heavily inspired by DC Comics, where the fictional superhero character Aquaman makes his appearance. The production of the fantasy film takes place under Detective Comics Films in association with The Safran Company and Atomic Monster Productions.

Warner Bros. Picture Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently set to release in theaters on December 16, 2022.
