Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun are engaged!
The Canadian-American singer, Avril Lavigne took to her social media to share the happy news of her and Mod Sun (real name Derek Smith) being engaged after dating for a year. Mod Sun proposed to the punk-pop star on March 27th, 2022 in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and Avril captioned the post, ‘Yes! I love you forever'.
Mod Sun also took to his social media to share the good news and wrote that he knew that she was the one the day they met. He also added that he always had a dream where he would propose to her in Paris, pull out the ring and ask her to marry him. He was on his knees and when he looked into her eyes, she looked beautiful and his words came up short at the moment to describe how he felt. He concluded the post by stating, "I love you, Avril."
Avril Lavigne shared that the proposal was the most perfect and romantic proposal she could have imagined for herself. The pop-punk princess went ahead to detail the moment where Mod Sun decided to pull up the ring and ask her to marry him; Avril shared that both of them were on a boat in the Seine River and had with a violin player with them to set up the mood, some champagne, and roses, and that is when Mod proposed her. Avril details that when he asked her to marry him, everything went still and at that moment it was just her and him.
Mod Sun popped the question to her ladylove with a heart-shaped ring which he got customized from XIV Karats from Beverly Hills with ‘Hi Icon’ engraved on it along with Mod + Avril on the inside of the ring. Those were the first words Mod Sun said to Avril Lavigne when they met via a mutual friend and American rapper Machine Gun Kelly, and Avril mentioned that Mod always knew that she wanted a heart-shaped diamond because the day they met, both of them had heart-shaped paved rings on, and they have worn the same ring every day since.
Avril and Mod collaborated on Mod Sun’s song "Flames" in 2021 and then worked on Avril Lavigne’s recently released seventh studio album, "Love Sux." Avril spoke to People and shared that the connection she felt with Mod Sun was very strong and unstoppable, and with every day passing and working on the album, the musician made days better for Avril, and she added that she felt like she had known him forever.
Avril Lavigne mentioned that she is now looking forward to having fun, working together, creating music, writing music, touring together, and most importantly, growing together with love and respect. The Canadian singer added that it always feels good to have someone with whom you can have a good time, someone who can hold you through good or bad times and be there for you throughout your journey.
Avril, who was taking a break from men while working on her album, shared that two days later, the thought of a break from men was thrown out of the window as she was smitten by Mod and he was smitten by her, and the two of them started dating after they met at a songwriting session. Avril added that she found love when she was not looking for it, but when she found it, she just followed her heart. The two of them soon debuted on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards in September and have been spotted on double dates with Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. The two of them recently attended the 64th Grammy Awards too.
Talking about their relationship, Mod Sun had shared with Metro in February 2021 that he was starstruck when Avril Lavigne appreciated his work and seemed interested because he says it as 'it's f–king Avril Lavigne' but he adds that she was sweet and asked him to send her some music he was working on at the time. Mod Sun explained that he was initially nervous to even ask her to be on his album for 'Flames' but then he did ask her and so she agreed. It was reported that Mod Sun got Avril's name tattooed on his neck the same month.
Avril Lavigne previously married Sum 41's Deyck Whibley and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, whereas Mod Sun dated actress Bella Thorne, and it has been reported that the couple was married but divorced after 15 months.
