Mary J. The Grammy Award-winning singer said that being an icon to her means to her is overcoming obstacles to accomplish the unthinkable and be widely admired for influencing a multitude of people and that is what she has represented.
The Icon Award winner said that she often looks back at her journey and sees how far she has come and the women whose lives she has been able to touch with her music. She joked while giving a speech that she was a ghetto fabulous and she still is. Mary J. Blige added in her speech that she would like to say to her fans that music has always been a source to remind oneself that they are not alone in their struggles and she is not alone before mentioning that she was searching for real love and she has finally found love, real love, which is she.
This is Mary J. Blige's eleventh Billboard Music Award win, following a win for My Life in 1995 and nine trophies during her The Breakthrough album era in 2006.. Mary added in a statement before the ceremony that her career has been an extraordinary and surprising journey that has featured many unexpected turns into fields she never could have envisioned, such as acting, producing, founding businesses, and now her music festival. She continued that through it all, she was always one way or another gravitated back to her first love, music. She added that to be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that she is truly humbled by.
With Icon Award, Mary J. Blige joins the former A-list awardees Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, and Pink who have also received the Icon Award.
Congratulations to the winners!
