Billy stated that he is honored and thankful to be here and went on to quote James Baldwin, who stated that it is an artist's job to interrupt the peace, and he stated that everyone knows he appears to take that job very seriously. The actor went on to say that he has been told he is too black, too gay, too loud, too extra, or too flamboyant, and that he is an utter disgrace who will never be blessed. Billy continued that everyone knows it's a lie, and the hypothesis is no longer credible. He went on to say that he is appreciative to have prospered enough to see the day when his homosexuality is no longer a liability but his superpower.

The artist continued that he just feels really privileged to be able to remain front and center of the world as an out, loud, and confident representation of what it signifies to be a black, queer, HIV-positive individual in 2022. Billy Porter took to Instagram to share his wonderful moment with the world, captioning it as "impossible dreams are coming true" and thanking his friends and family who traveled to be a part of his once-in-a-lifetime moment. Billy also expressed appreciation to everyone who has supported him along the way.

The actor dedicated the award to his mother, who is a resident of the Actor's Fund Nursing Home. The American Horror Story star stated that she's the perfect embodiment of what true Christianity entails and that her willingness to accept what she does not comprehend with love and devotion is a model that the remainder of the world could take lessons from. He made a point of including those who were in need in his speech and even decided to dedicate it to all those in need. Everyone has endured a difficult couple of years, and no one of us is absolutely fine, which is fine. We will heal together.
