The world went into a wave of shock when Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes announced their breakup back in November 2020 with a statement that read, "Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever." We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. "

The sources at the time added that the romance between the two just fizzled and the two of them couldn’t move forward. Shawn Mendes shared with Audacy Check in August 2021 that Camila and him were lucky to be friends before turning their friendship into something really special. He added that the pandemic was the time when they both were just living in the moment and not working. Shawn mentioned that the two spent their time riding bikes around Miami and just having fun.

The couple has been tight-lipped about their romance fizzling out, but since the two of them are incredible singers and songwriters, rather than going to a publication and explaining how they feel, they decided to pour their hearts out in the form of songs.

Camila collaborated with Ed Sheeran on her recent release, "Bam Bam," which, according to a source, hints about the breakup with Shawn Mendes, and she used the song to gain closure about their relationship. The source added that the singer is aware of the fact that the idea of reconciling with Shawn Mendes is somewhat off the table, so she decided to write him a ballad as an ode to their beautiful relationship.

The couple was spotted in Miami a couple of months back and the sources added that Camila had hopes of getting back together with him, but Shawn Mendes’ breakup song, "It’ll Be Okay," made it pretty clear that although he’s hurt by the breakup, he’ll be okay. Shawn's music video features him walking around in the wintery streets of Canada while reminiscing the time the two of them spent together.

Shawn Mendes a few months ago also took to his social media to share with his fans that he is kind of struggling with social media at the moment which follows after his breakup. He added that his sole purpose is to make music with complete honesty and he uses his music as his platform to get inside his mind which he fails to do when he tries to talk about something that bothers him.

Coming back to Camila's song, some of the lyrics read, "You say you hated the ocean but you’re surfing now/I say I’d love our life but I just sold our house/We were kids at the start, I guess we’re grown-ups now/Now I’m dancing with strangers you could be casually dating." These indicate that she is talking about Shawn Mendes but the singer recently spoke to Zane Lowe and clarified that she has nothing but only love for Shawn Mendes and there are no hard feelings.

Camila Cabello went ahead to clarify that the song is mostly about how she sees the cycle of love, life and gives that to people. She went ahead to say that her priorities have changed in recent times and she is focused on being a well-rounded person. Camila who had kept mum about her relationship said that in those two years, Camila and Shawn were together, her focus was on how she can make her life happy, healthy, and have a happy relationship. She lastly added, "I was doing therapy a lot. My focus has really shifted. While I'm in promo mode, honestly, if I'm not having fun, what's the f—ing point?"

Other than "Bam Bam", Camila Cabello, who turned 25 today, has more things to celebrate as she announced her third album, "Familia". Camila released one of the tracks from her upcoming album a few months ago, "Don’t Go Yet," which she describes as "sonically and melodically just me being free." She told Zane Lowe that Familia is according to her, her best album so far.

Camila appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS and revealed that she is having a Y2K-themed birthday party. She also performed her new song, "Bam Bam."
