Actress and model Cara Delevingne recently appeared on the cover of British Vogue’s August 2022 Pride issue along with other significant LGBTQ members or creatives from the industry and opened up about her identity and rights as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Cara Delevingne is one of the 12 LGBTQ creatives who have appeared on the cover of British Vogue, and the model and actress were vocal about her support for the support of women’s and trans rights. She said that trans rights and women’s rights are all human rights and this is not about oh it’s no one’s job because they are not part of the community, but it’s everyone’s job to stand up for each other.

Cara Delevingne, who currently appears on Only Murders in the Building alongside Selena Gomez, stated during the interview that representation is very important to her, especially in the industry and in the world at large, because people need to see people like them represented on a larger platform. Cara Delevingne added that she never really came out but it was more like she just decided that she was done with being in the closet and being ashamed of who she was and who she loved and who she was, so for her, it was more like just being love and she added that people should be able to love who they want to love irrespective of what others might think about them.

The British model came out as bisexual in 2015 during an interview with Vogue and later as pansexual in 2020, mentioning that she wants to be as open with people as possible. She stated that she has not made a firm choice about anything, but as days pass, she is learning and discovering things about herself.

Along with Cara Delevingne, actress Ariana DeBose is also featured on the cover, she most recently received an Academy Award for her performance in West Side Story, becoming the first openly LGBT woman of color and Afro-Latina to do so. During the interview, she claimed that it took her a long time to recognize she was coming out. At that time, Ariana remarked that she was alive and had understood that perhaps her grandparents were unaware of her affinity for all varieties of people. She had not yet settled on a term to use to define herself, but she decided that she was queer.

The actress said that she thought it would allow her to keep growing no matter who she loves or how she identifies herself, so that works for her. But recollecting a childhood incident, she said that when she was 11 and was driving with her mother. Ariana said that they were in the middle of a dance workshop and on her way back home she told her mother that people were just really beautiful and admitted that she could like girls and could date girls, to which her mother said that’s cool.

Another actress, Cynthia Erivo, who is gearing up to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, said that It took her a while to come out as bisexual, and she remarked in the interview that LGBTQIA+ individuals still feel the need to continually defend their right to be treated equally with everyone else. Cynthia asserted that the only differences between LGBTQIA+ individuals and straight people are how they express their love and themselves. She also remarked that instead of being criticized for being daring, they should be praised for it.

Cynthia added that she cannot express how many people she has discovered along the journey that have just welcomed her in with open arms and made a safe space for her and made her feel very comfortable the way she is, and she aspires to do the same for the ones out there.
