Daniel Radcliffe opens up about being a child star.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight along with co-star Evan Rachel Wood and director Eric Appel where he talked about his experience of being a child actor.
Daniel Radcliffe described his parents as "incredible" and "very supportive" of his career as a child actor, adding that his parents walked a fine line between being assertive and always being supportive The actor said it in a way that is very seldom attributed to child actors' parents, so he is blessed. When he was cast in the role of Harry Potter, he was 11 years old.
Daniel Radcliffe is not preparing for his upcoming film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, in which he plays Weird Al Yankovic, and revealed that the legendary entertainer was on set every day and was involved in the shoot. Weird was kind the entire time, according to Daniel.
In March, at the Lost City premiere of the 2022 SXSW Conference and Festivals in Austin, Texas, Daniel revealed that he grew the mustache because he did not want to use a fake mustache for the film and that the wig was easy to put on and take off. Daniel shared that the movie is a 100 percent true story of Weird Al Yankovic’s life and mentioned that it’s insane and it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Actress Evan Rachel Wood stars as Madonna, who serves as Weird Al Yankovic’s love interest and corrupting influence in the movie and she shared that she has been dressing up like Madonna and singing her songs since she was a kid. Evan recalled that she once skipped school, and faked being sick so that she could stay home to lip-sync to ‘Like a Prayer’ all day. She mentioned that even though her mother caught her, it seemed like she had been preparing for the role her entire life.
Daniel Radcliffe spoke to Entertainment Weekly and shared that every character in the film begins as something people recognize before exploding into something insane. He went on to say that the absurdity of the situation is where the comedy comes from, and that the more grounded one can play a lot of it (not all of it, because a lot of it is insane), the better. He also stated that he is concerned about the reactions of his in-law, as his girlfriend Erin Darke, as well as her father and brother, are huge Weird Al fans. Daniel hopes they enjoy what they see on the screen.
The actress explained that she played Madonna like a sociopath, saying that she's very sneaky and only uses Weird Al to advance her career and that everything she does is a pathological lie to advance her career. So Evan explained that it was taking Madonna's brilliance and turning her into a narcissist who runs a drug cartel. It has to be a little absurd. She'll have to start flying off the tracks progressively in the end.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is about Weird Al Yankovic, the famous accordion-toting parody musician who was told by his parents at a young age to give up on his dreams and stop being himself.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story premieres exclusively on Roku on Nov. 4.
