Demi Lovato opens up about experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

Singer Demi Lovato recently appeared for an interview with Alexandra Cooper for her "Call Her Daddy" podcast, where she got candid and detailed about her past including her first time experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

Demi said that she was 12 or 13 when she started experimenting or trying on drugs starting with pills for the first time, and it was due to an injury after she got into a car accident and the medical professionals prescribed her opiates. The singer said that at the time, her mother did not think that she would have to lock up the opiates of a 13-year-old and revealed that she was drinking at that point.

Demi Lovato shared that she was bullied as a young kid and was looking for an escape from that, and when her mother noticed how the pills started to disappear quickly, she decided to lock them away. The singer mentioned that she used to drink a lot in her teenage years before trying out drugs like cocaine and Xanax, which she stole from her mother’s medication. Demi admitted that she was 17 when she tried cocaine and she loved it too much, which then kind of bled into her going to treatment right after she turned 18.

The singer shared that when she tried the alcohol for the first time, she was alone, which she now says should have been a major red flag. She stole beer from her stepdad and took it to her room and drank four beers just because she was curious to find out what it felt like to be drunk, and she mentioned she was 90 pounds, so that was a lot. Demi said during the podcast that she was good at convincing people for a while, and she was when it came to her only using pills to help her sleep.

She went on to say that she began making excuses, but it eventually got to the point where she needed medical help, and everyone on her team was supportive and encouraged her to ask for help because they had seen it coming for a long time. Demi Lovato suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2018 about which she had documented in her documentary, Dancing With the Devil and later finished her 90-day stint in rehab after the treatment.

She also described how one team member took over and her eating issue, bulimia, began to worsen throughout the interview. She recounted that one night she went out unnoticed, binged, and purified, but she did tell her management team about it, and they barred her door to prevent her from going out unnoticed to eat. Demi Lovato stated that she had to tell a member of her team that she needed help when her eating issue got so bad that she was occasionally vomiting blood.

She said that this happened in 2017, and the person glanced at her and said, "You don't seem ill enough." She said that this individual was telling her that she wasn't going to get treatment since doing so may make them appear terrible, so she decided against it and overdosed less than a year later. Demi Lovato reportedly finished a treatment stay in Utah earlier this year and returned to Los Angeles, saying she wants to get back on track and maintain her sobriety. According to the insider, her family and friends supported her when she was in treatment and only wanted her to start the new year off right. The singer, who recently turned 30, said to Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that she had never felt so sure about herself and so grounded in her life. Staying on track, healthy, and fit is certainly a priority for the singer at the moment.

Demi Lovato discussed one of the most heartbreaking revelations from her documentary, Dancing With the Devil, in another interview when she confessed that her first sexual encounter was rape. Demi Lovato noted on the show that time may cure wounds; it might not do so for all of them, but the more time that has passed, the simpler it has been. She was speaking about attempting to recover from that and added that she is still really saddened that someone took something away from me when she was so young.

The singer added that it was tough since this person was also around and appeared on Disney, and having them around was upsetting. It also ruined her adolescent years, during which other tragedies occurred and were somewhat overshadowed. However, she will occasionally cry and experience her own pain since doing so is healthy and preferable to holding it within.
