The director of Warner Bros.’s latest science fiction Dune, Denis Villeneuve says that "it was a non-negotiable” for him to release his upcoming blockbuster Dune part two exclusively in theatres for 45-days.

"For me, it was a non-negotiable condition, But again, I love streaming. I use streaming all the time. I think it's a fantastic way of revisiting movies or discovering movies from the past that are not accessible in theaters anymore. But I still think that contemporary movies need to have their chance." Villeneuve revealed while discussing about his newly released film in a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

Villeneuve went on to say that the experience of watching a film in theatres is something altogether different.  "the very heart of the cinematic language, There's something about committing. The act of going to the theater means you're totally committing yourself."

He further added saying that when you watch a film in theatre you are more engaged and committed towards the film. "You're engaging in the process of receiving a movie with a different rhythm, a different approach and a vision. For that, you have to be fully committed," he continued. "It's part of the ritual to receive cinema. At home, you're in front of your computer, you're taking the dog outside or you're answering your phone."

While Villeneuve will not allow the studio to release the Dune sequel simultaneously in theatres and its video streaming platform HBO Max, Dune debuted in theatres as well as on HBO Max on 22nd October 2021, starring Timothée Chalamet in the role of Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson in the role of Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac in the role of Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolinin the role of Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgårdin the role of Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista in the role of Glossu Rabban, Stephen McKinley Henderson in the role of Thufir Hawat, Zendaya in the role of Chani, David Dastmalchian in the role of Piter De Vries, Chang Chen in the role of Dr. Wellington Yueh, Sharon Duncan-Brewster in the role of Dr. Liet-Kynes, Charlotte Rampling in the role of Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jason Momoa in the role of Duncan Idaho, and Javier Bardem in the role of Stilgar.

Villeneuve has already started working on the second part of the movie as he previously revealed in a separate interview. "It's fantastic news, but it's also kind of a burden," the filmmaker said. "The good news is that a lot of the work has been done already regarding design, casting, locations and writing. So we're not starting from scratch. It's not a long period of time, but I will try to face that challenge because it's important for me that the audience sees Part Two as soon as possible. It's not a sequel where it's another episode or another story with the same characters. It actually has direct continuity to the first movie. It's the second part of the big huge movie that I'm trying to do. So the sooner the better.”
