Elizabeth Olsen talks about her sisters!

Elizabeth Olsen, who recently appeared as Wanda Maximoff in the recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, opened up about how her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen helped her with fame.

During an interview with The Independent, the actress shared how her sisters have been a guiding light for her in terms of navigating fame and it all comes down to one rule, "No" is a full sentence, she said. Elizabeth explained that because her sisters have been in the industry for a longer period, they have helped her to understand the dynamics, which is why she can say no to an opportunity that does not suit her.

Elizabeth shared that she turns down the opportunity to present onstage simply because she does not like it and added that although she did try it, it did not fit her and it’s not worth the feeling of passing out that she gets, so she has decided that presenting an award onstage is not her thing.

The actress has opened up about her mental health struggles like anxiety and panic attacks previously, which is also one of the aspects she looks up to her sisters and thinks about how much they were able to endure the fame that came along their way at such a young age. Elizabeth shared that, according to her, Mary-Kate and Ashley are some of the most amazing people to look up to, and the legacy they have created for themselves is something she is amazed by, along with how well the two of them have conducted themselves.

The WandaVision actress added that she admires them so much and the work they have done and shared that she thinks all of it came from them having a healthy perspective of what they were doing and that they were very aware of it. Elizabeth Olsen added that she could only benefit from that healthy perspective and it has helped her to inform her how to conduct herself. In one of her interviews, she mentioned that she enjoyed being the younger sibling of the twins because if one of them spoilt her, the other one would want to match it, so she had a lot of fun. She stated that she was always aware of the presence, a want to work harder, and a chip on her shoulder to be over-prepared and disciplined to feel as if she had earned it.

Wanda Maximoff  or the Scarlet Witch is one of the loved characters of the Marvel Universe who first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron and later went ahead to appear in different movies, along with having a series based on her ability to cope with grief and trauma. Recently the actress was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her part in the 2021 miniseries "WandaVision."

Elizabeth shares that she is not able to understand why her character has been so popular for years, especially when she is not emotionally attached to Wanda. She said in the interview that she said yes to a couple of movies, but she continued to appear in other movies too, so that surprised her a lot. She said in the interview that she wanted to see her character more. She said that she has been confused by how lucky she got with the makers wanting to make WandaVision.

The actress shared that when she and Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, were doing press for WandaVision, she was mortified because it was the first show Marvel had decided to put out on OTT and she had the same pressure all over again with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, saying that she did not have it as a part of those ensemble films before adding that she has not seen the movie yet but will watch it eventually. She might not be too attached to Wanda, but she seemed to defend the franchise from critics like Martin Scorsese, who believes that Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are like theme parks, or Francis Ford Coppola, who called Marvel Universe movies prototypes made over and over and over again to look different.

Elizabeth defended the franchise, claiming that the criticisms make their hard work appear to be of lesser quality. She explained that she understands that franchise is not making indie art films, but there are people who are working hard day and night to make the movie, and remarks like these detract from the crew, which irritates her much. The actress stated that they have some of the incredible and talented people who are set designers, costume designers, camera operators etc., and have proved to be the best in the industry but when critics like these make it seem as if they are disparaging them.

She also added that from an actor’s point of view, she understands that there's a different kind of performance that's happening. But added that throwing the Marvel under the bus takes away the dedication and hardworking of the crew who are simply talented and extraordinary in their jobs that is why they are here and people make such comments about the movies those people have worked hard on, makes her angry because she respects talent and hardworking people and so does Marvel.

The actress is looking forward to continuing to develop her character in Phase 4 of the Marvel Universe and mentioned that she enjoys playing characters whose acts people disagree with, especially in a world where most people are uninterested in learning about other people's perspectives. It's a challenging task for an actress to elicit empathy for a character with whom they disagree, but Elizabeth Olsen says she's up for it.
