Ellie Goulding gets candid about the infamous rumor.

Ellie Goulding spoke to the Daily Mail on Sunday about the trauma she endured after the rumors of her cheating on Ed Sheeran with Niall Horan started to make the rounds on the internet back in 2014.

It was also reported that Ed Sheeran’s song "Don’t" was inspired by Ellie Goulding, and fans believed that she cheated on him with former One Direction band member Niall Horan.

The singer said that it is fascinating to hear how many people are interested in that, adding that it happened nine years ago, and if she is being honest, it did cause her a lot of trauma. Ellie added that she envies the fact that her friends just spent their 20s having flings and one-night stands and going through what every 20-something goes through in private, but every single thing she did was written about.

Ellie Goulding told the Daily Mail that she was given the impression of feeling like a despicable person, which she continued to struggle with just because she recognizes she is not. Ellie Goulding recently shared a TikTok video of herself dolled up in a black jumpsuit and dancing to Harry Styles' "As It Was." In the comment thread, a TikTok user wrote, they literally can not believe she cheated on Ed with Niall, but slay fr (for real), and she responded by trying to clarify that the claim is untrue.

Ellie stated to the newspaper that she was super intoxicated when she stated that statement, but she chooses to believe the rumors that made the rounds in 2014 harmed her professional life, provoking her to take a five-year break. The singer stated that although she can laugh at this moment, the rumor did change several things for her, and she explained herself as somewhat reclusive.

The Love Me Like You Do singer explained that she didn't want to accomplish due to it, and that's why she left a comment because she gets more remarks about that stupid teenage situation than she can imagine. Ellie adds that there was nothing wrong and it was personal, but it ended up causing her so much sadness that she disdains it. She also disclosed that she and Ed Sheeran are on decent terms now, saying that it is all in the past and that they are mates as adults.

Ellie Goulding discussed the rumors in a 2015 interview with ELLE UK, saying that she went on a few dates with Niall Horan but did not have a relationship with Ed Sheeran and she had no idea where all the rumors happened to come from or why it was made such a big deal even though it wasn't true. Ellie Goulding went on to disparage the double standard that women face in the music industry, recounting a similar conversation she had with her friend Taylor Swift, whose "Bad Blood" music video she had starred in.

The singer said that it irritates her that female musicians are continuously characterized by the men they have or have not dated adding that it's something that she has talked about a lot with Taylor and she is aware of this adding that it bothers her. Ellie said that it's like, a person can be a talented artist and write amazing songs, yet everybody's going to talk about some relationship they think that person had or didn't have. Ellie said that it's a problem that they believe tends to happen more to female artists than male artists.

Ellie Goulding married Caspar Jopling in 2019, and the couple welcomed their first child, Arthur, in April 2021. Meanwhile, in December 2018, Ed Sheeran married his longtime girlfriend Cherry Seaborn. Lyra Antarctica, the couple's first daughter, was born in August 2020, and their second daughter, whose name he has yet to reveal, was born in May 2022.
