While 2019’s Captain Marvel star Gemma Chan is getting a second chance in Marvel Cinematic Universe as she will play the role of Sersi in the newly released Marvel Studios The Eternals. The actress while recently appearing at an interview with Coup de Main Magazine shared some interesting details regarding how Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, approached her for the role of the superhero character Sersi for Chloe Zhao’s film.

"I am very lucky in that this is my second time; I feel very fortunate. It was as much of a surprise to me, as to probably everyone else, but I feel very, very lucky to be part of this film, and amongst this incredible, talented cast," Chan told Coup de Main Magazine. "I certainly wasn't expecting to be back. I had run into Kevin Feige on the awards circuit when I was promoting Crazy Rich Asians and he just came up to me and said, 'Oh, we loved your work in the film, and we would love to have you back.' And I just thought he was being nice. I thought: 'Who knows if that will ever happen? And maybe sometime in the distant future… you never know.'"

Chan further added, recalling how she and Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman were the last to be cast in the blockbuster movie. "I wasn't expecting to be called in. I did a screen test for Sersi quite late in the game, It just caught me by surprise, but I was really, really happy to get the call."

"I was a fan of the MCU before joining it; I never dreamed I'd be part of it, let alone twice," she concluded.

"It's so interesting actually because obviously, the Eternals have been on earth for the last 7,000 years," Chan previously teased a team-up between her character Sersi and Valkyire in a separate interview. "So they could have had several run-ins with them, various different characters. But I actually really think that Sersi and Valkyrie would have a lot of fun together."

"One of the first things we talked about was Sersi's arc in the film because it's a bit of a coming of age story for her, really, even though she's sounds to be as old already," Chan added, explaining about her superhero character Sersi. "She doesn't even really know the extent of her powers at the beginning of the film. She doesn't necessarily trust her instincts. She has a lot of doubt, but by the end of the film, she really comes into her own and she really learns to harness her power. And that was a really fun thing to fulfill."
