I Know What You Did Last Summer had hit the theatres 24 years ago, and it's once again back with a brand new TV series!

The original film had launched in the cinemas in 1997. The storyline followed 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' a novel by Lois Duncan from 1973. It follows the adventure of four friends who had partaken in a hit-and-run accident. Then a year later, the friends are made to relive their past as a killer decides to stalk them. The film starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. Now, a TV series reboot based on the film will soon be coming to your screens.

The first four episodes will be making their way to your screen in October 2021. Created by Sara Goodman, the show follows a similar plot as in the film. The story focuses on a group of friends that had accidentally killed a man in an accident after a night of partying and now will be returning back to their hometown after a year.

The film's screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, himself loved the TV series' writeup a lot. He told Us Weekly, "I read the pilot script. And I didn't know what I'd think. It made me a believer. I can't wait to watch. I really liked the twist. I really thought that was cool, and so I'm excited to see that."

The OG cast of the film definitely assured their blessing for the series, too. Ryan Phillipe addressed the new cast at the New York Comic-Con through a virtual panel. He said, "Hi, this is Ryan Phillippe, and I just wanna say I can't wait for the series, and I know this new cast is gonna absolutely kill it — or be killed. I was. If I learned anything, it's that you always have to be prepared to run for your life, especially if you have a car chasing you and you're on foot."

He also added, "The fact that something that you did has stood the test of time and it's still relevant, and people still enjoy it, and it finds a new audience every year, it's cool."

Here, get to know the new cast that will be passing on the cult-classic experience to the generations if today:-

The new cast now stars Madison Iseman from the CMT comedy television series Still the King. She will be playing the twin sisters Lennon and Alison. Margot will be played by Brianne Tju, who is famous for portraying Riley Marra in the MTV series Scream. Next is Ezekiel Goodman from Rat Bastard will play Dylan and is a writer and director besides being an actor. Ashley Moore, the North Carolina model who starred in Model Squad, is to be seen as Riley and will be accompanied by Sebastian Amoruso, who starred in Adam Lederer and Tom Wright's TV series Solver ( 2018 ) plays Johnny. Other cast members will include Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, Bill Jeck, and Brooke Bloom.

Will the series take after the original film?

Both the TV series and the 1997 film are based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan and follow similar plotlines. The characters of the film and show mistakenly killed a person and did not stay behind to account for the actions. They get to escape the grips of their deed far enough by a year until the past comes knocking and bursting their flimsy bubbles of safety. Still, the show will follow a different line of events after the original accident has taken place.

Talking about the characters and their relationships through the series, Sebastian Amoruso said, " I think, in our show, there's a little bit of intentional overlap. The core of these two characters, Allison and Lennon, are very similar. They both have this intense emotional relationship with their past experiences and with the people around them, and I think that is true through-line between them. It's the thing that connects them other than literally being sisters."

Here is what the other cast members had to say:-

Prine Jr., aged 45, asked the new cast to play plenty of pranks on each other just as he had when they shot for the film. He said, "I welcome all of you as the new generation of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and I know you guys are gonna do a great job repping it." He said he was the person "capable of pulling off pranks and scares on every single cast member."

Brianne Tju agreed to the fact and said she was mostly the butt of all jokes as she got scared easily. "I think everyone just picked on me. I just get scared easily, so I'm an easy target."

Geller, aged 44, asked the cast to stay ready with measures to overcome "a killer haircut, or any other curveball a killer might throw." The actress had met Prince Jr. when they filmed Buffy the Vampire Slayer and went on to marry each other in 2002. They now share a daughter Charlotte, aged 11, and a son Rocky, aged 9.

The new cast definitely appreciated the fond gestures of the old cast and added in their thanks for the sweet words and advice. Madison Iseman relayed, "Honestly, I just feel honored. We're so proud of this, and it's coming from such an iconic movie and an iconic universe. And we feel very lucky to be a part of it, so getting their approval is kind of everything."

Only had she finished addressing the cast's blessings that Phillippe and Hewitt followed up with their own advice and blessings.

Ryan Phillippe advised the cast to work on their running speed to stay ahead of killers and also conceded that he feels a little 'ancient' now that his original work is getting its own reboot. He also added that he thinks the remake is very 'cool.'

Hewitt also said that she is definitely very 'excited' for the film to be remade and quipped, "If they had asked me years ago what I thought about it, I would, of course, have said, 'What are you waiting for, huh?'" If you are a hardcore fan, you probably picked up the reference, right?

While four episodes of the show have already aired, it's exciting to wait and see where the series is headed next.
