Sanjaya Malakar, who appeared on the sixth season of American Idol in 2007, has come out as bisexual. During an appearance on The Adam Sank Show, Sanjaya Malakar, who is now a pastry chef and a bartender, announced that he identifies as bisexual and spoke about his experience of competing on American Idol.

Sanjaya Malakar went through the audition process for American Idol in 2006, making it to the season's top 40 competitors, and even though the audience liked him and voted him into the top 10, judge Simon Cowell harshly blasted Sanjaya Malakar's performances, calling them "utterly dreadful." Sanjaya Malakar's distinctive ponytail-mohawk hybrid haircut, in addition to his singing, attracted notice and made him the target of ridicule from many spectators and comedians.

The pastry chef’s sexuality was also one of the things that were talked about and soon became a topic of debate since viewers assumed that Sanjaya Malakar was gay and was hiding his identity. During the conversation with Adam Sank, Sanjaya said that he identifies as bisexual and clarified that when he was on the show he did not know about his sexuality, which was why it was so weird for him.

Sanjaya Malakar went on to say that since his father is from India and grew up in a temple and his mother is an Italian-American with an A-type personality, Sanjaya Malakar was reared by women, including his mother's sisters and his sisters, and subsequently, he became engaged in the theater. Because no one had ever taught him how to be a male, he struggled to figure out how to communicate with young boys and quickly became an uncomfortable theatrical kid.

He continued by saying that he always got along with theater kids, gay kids, and girls, so he was always like, these were his people, but he didn't comprehend why individuals kept telling him he was gay at the age of seven. He used to think he didn't even have any attraction to anyone, so why were people telling him all of this? Sanjaya Malakar claimed that he had been seeing a woman for a long time while he was on the show and was learning about his childhood when all of a sudden he heard and read that he was being labeled as gay. He claimed that he had to refuse since, at that time, people were just forcing him to choose and define himself.

Sanjaya Malakar recalled to Adam Sank that he grew up in a period when being called an "f—-t" at school was the worst thing that could have occurred, adding that being a part of the LGBTQ community was a major deal. When Sanjaya was growing up, it was OK to be homosexual, but one needed to identify yourself, either this or that. He said that his team, which was made up mostly of publicists, told him to just tell people that he was single. Be evasive.

The former singer and now bartender added that his team told him that no one needed to know about anything because he couldn't risk losing his fans, to which he responded that he was fine, but why was he manipulating what he knew about himself to figure out what kind of fans he'd get because he was still discovering himself? Sanjaya Malakar added during the conversation that he feels comfortable and confident in his sexuality today even though he has not come out to his parents.

Sanjaya Malakar said that for him at this point, he does not care about what people know about his sexuality but added that if he gets into a long-term relationship with a guy, he would bring him to his family and they would be okay with it. Although he acknowledged that his family is not the kind where he needs to come out officially, he said that it could be difficult to bring a lady home after admitting that he also likes males. Sanjaya disclosed that a few of his large relatives had brought home gay lovers before being married to someone else. He came to the conclusion that it was not a major problem and that it shouldn't be their concern till it is.

Sanjaya Malakar made it clear that he is not attempting to fuck any of them and that, if necessary, he will come out to the public. He continued by saying that it's a disadvantage for him because he enjoys the thrill of a chase and does not like feeling like someone is fucking him because he was on American Idol. After all, the attention he received during his time on the show hasn't exactly helped him in getting success in partnerships. He revealed that he is also a bartender, so he doesn't like fucking someone who wants to fuck him because he is a bartender. Sanjaya said that he has a lot of self-esteem issues, and he likes to be sure that someone's interested in him.
