Actress and singer Olivia Newton, who is remembered for her iconic character Sandy Olsson from 1978’s "Grease", has passed away at the age of 73. The actress' husband has confirmed the news.

John Easterling continued, saying the family would appreciate some alone at this trying time.

John Easterling shared the news by stating that Olivia Newton-John has served as a symbol of victory and hope for more than 30 years as she has chronicled her battle with breast cancer. The actress-singer's pioneering work with plant medicine and ability to heal inspired the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which is dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. The family requests donations to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund instead of flowers, according to the statement.

In January 2020, Olivia Newton-John told reporters that she regards her battle with cancer as one she is successfully overcoming and that she isn't letting it stop her. When she was getting ready for her daughter Chloe Lattanzi's wedding in February of last year, she was doing great. Olivia Newton said that she is fortunate to still be doing all these things. The actress said that she does not believe that she ever planned on living this long and feels quite fortunate. After Kelly Preston passed away in July 2020, Olivia Newton spoke with Entertainment Tonight about how she felt pressured to disclose her 1990s diagnosis to the public. When Olivia learned that there was going to be an article about her slowly dying because of cancer in one of the gossip magazines, she decided it would be much better if she just told the world about it herself rather than scaring her family and friends.

Olivia Newton-John's incredible singing career, which included four GRAMMY awards, five number-one hits, and 10 top-ten singles, is another facet of her legacy. The singer of "Let Me Be There" had two number-one singles in the 1970s. Classic songs including Summer Nights, "Hopelessly Devoted to You," and "You're the One That I Want" are still often performed today. After Grease's success, the actress made a comeback to the big screen for her role in the 1980 film 'Xanadu'.
