How a show named Only Murders in the Building can be categorized under a comedy series is beyond comprehension. While the show definitely does have some pretty off-chart hilarious moments, it is also packed tight with the thrill of ongoing murders in the building and the crime podcast fascination of the three leads of the series.

With every episode beginning on a new mystery to solve, the Season finale of Only Murders in Building is a remarkable patchwork of an excellent story made light enough with the comedic prowess of Martin and Short and the enigmatic performance of Selena Gomez. The series followed in with Mabel, played by Selena, and two old crime mystery fanatics who soon get tangled in the mysterious killing of a tenant in their building at the Upper West Side.

While Mabel first seems to be as oblivious to the victim as anyone, she is soon seen to have quite a lot that she is hiding behind her mystical personality. Here is everything about the Season finale scrutinized to make more sense of the series' bizarre happenings.

The series follows Oliver, played by Martin Short, Charles, played by Steve Martin, and Mabel, played by Selena Gomez, as they delve deep to find what happened when their neighbor Tim Kono is killed. The show paces briskly up to the 10th episode revealing a lot of hidden secrets in its trail to a standstill at the ultimate cliffhanger of episode 10: Open and Shut. The episode does reveal a lot many things never suspected before but barely touches the surface to look deeper into what might have happened.

The most captivating part of the series had to be when Tim Kono narrates his ending moments up until his death. The character, oblivious to his impending doom, boards an elevator already occupied by the mystery trio, Oliver Charles and Mabel, as he makes the trek to the garbage chute with a trash bag in tow. Tim was then shown to have sworn secrecy by Teddy Dimas to the murder of his friend Zoe by Theo Dimas as he pushes her off the roof of the Arconia.

The secret was kept under covers to protect Mabel. But apart from things getting weird as he takes on some FBI work to blow the cover off a corrupt jewelry business, we also find that Charle's girlfriend, bassoonist Jan, also is the flame of Tim. Of course, Oliver then had to quip, "What a terrific goddamn finale this is going to be."

He, along with Mabel, reach Charles to tell him the news, but Charles has already found out that Jan lied to him, and his nose is already bleeding as a sign to show that he is anxious for the confrontation. As Charles had returned from Jan's concert, he had learned she wasn't a front chair bassoonist like she said, and Charles, assuming the worst, already knew that if she lied about a small thing, some bigger things could be hidden, too.

This led by Oliver's and Mabel's relaying of the news sheds light onto Jan's possibly murderous streak, but Charles does not believe them. The two head to Jan's apartment to search for evidence, where they find her handwritten notes. Meanwhile, Jan already reaches Charles and intoxicates him while trying to clear up some things and then soon hits with a poison-laced handkerchief straight to Charles' nose. The poison is later found to be in Jan's bathroom alongside the weapon of murder and the Dimases' emerald ring.

But here, Charles is still alone, with Jan monologuing her way to murder, and she got away with it. She reveals she poisoned Tim, made him shoot himself, stabbed herself, and more, all the while trying to set the building on fire. Charles, however, crawls to the elevator, where he meets Mabel and Oliver, who tries to rescue him down to the building's boiler rooms. They then remove the building's duct to let the fumes out so that the building doesn't burn down, but Jan reaches them again with a gun pointed at Oliver's head.

While Charles watches helplessly, Mabel sneaks up on Jan and punches the murderess with the Dimases' emerald ring. And hence, it ends the merry murder streak of Jan as she ends up behind bars, and Oliver gets to re-instate their leases from Bunny, the lead board member of Arconia, who is called "cranky old bitch," by Mabel, something which will be of consequence soon enough.

But as of the finale of the first season of this lovely, comedic yet horrifying series, Mabel, Oliver, and Charles are quite safe and sound. Charles is still recovering from the after-effects of the poison, Oliver gets to have his dog, Winnie, back, and Mabel gets to resume her love life with Oscar. At ease with herself after many long years, Mabel is finally satisfied and happy.

The finale shows the charismatic trio of crime podcast-loving friends finishing off their Only Murders podcast and raising toasts to each other on the Arconia rooftop. But Mabel finds a new lead and ends the peaceful moment stating, "Does anyone else feel like there's still a couple of loose ends?" While no one pays much attention to the question, tragedy hits only moments later.

Seeing that they are running low on booze, Mabel runs down to replenish their champagne stocks when Charles and Oliver hear sirens drawing closer and receive a text from an unknown number that reads: "Get out of the building now!!!" Just as they reach downstairs to rescue and flee with Mabel, she is found to be bent over Bunny's dead body. Wearing a tie-dye hoodie, she has knitting needles stuck in her chest, and Mabel could only say,  "It's not what you think."

Soon, the novice trio of detectives is handcuffed and paraded in front of their friends and Arconian neighbors to the police. There stands Oscar with his tie-dye hoodie still on him, and a very eager Cinda Canning is capturing the whole story for her very own crime podcast.
