Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum had taken the entire Hollywood industry by surprise as the interestingly magical storyline vowed the audience. The film series soon landed instant success for the cast of the film, and now with almost a decade has passed since the release of the movie, Magic Mike still holds a close place in the hearts of so many people and continues to be a record-breaking hit in history.
The story of the smash hit film follows the life of Mike Lane, portrayed by Channing Tatum. The character finds it difficult to make ends meet with his day job. He works as a skilled worker, adding details to cars but the real magic happens when Mike takes the stage of an exotic club by a storm. The strip club is where he makes the most of his money with respect to his day job.
Being a successful stripper, Mike extends his talents from the business with Adam, played by Alex Pettyfer. Fresh to the world of exotic entertainment, the character, aged 19, needs to learn the inside details of the biz, which is happily provided to him by Mike as his mentor. Yet, things are not very easy for Mike, being such a known face in the stripping business.
The story follows a comedic drama genera build, with Steven Soderbergh directing the action from behind the camera. In fact, the story also takes after Channing Tatum's own life from the days when he worked as a stripper before becoming a well-known Hollywood star. The famous star shared the incentive behind the storyline as he said, “It’s not all my life, but it’s definitely all my experiences,” as he shared his life from before his Hollywood fame with The Hollywood Reporter in February 2012 before the film was released on the big screens. “I basically poured all my memories and stories out. We just kind of wrote something entirely unique to itself.”
The mega-successful film was produced by Tatum himself and debuts the screenplay writeup by Reid Carolin. Interestingly, it was revealed that the film's screen write-up was completed in just about a month!
Sharing his hopes for the success of the film, the star shared, “We really want it to be good,” and added, “I know it’s getting a lot of press and a lot of hype and it’s scary when that happens because you just want people to like it, or to understand it.”
Of course, the film was a blockbuster hit and made an instant buzz around the globe. With just about a budget of $7 million poured into the film's production, the film managed to draw in $167 million in box office collections from around the world. The film shortly followed in with a sequel to the original movie, Magic Mike XXL. Taking after the parent movie, the successive film also garnered massive success with $117 million earned globally.
A year after the release of the film's sequel, Tatum revealed that an idea for the third film in the franchise has been popping in his head for a while. Revealing what the film could be about he had said, “The first one was about Mike, the second one was about the guys and I think the third one is really about man and woman having a conversation about sex and themselves and who we all are." “That’s the next step I would like to take with the story,” he revealed in The Hollywood Reporter interview.
It is safe to say that people have been waiting for the third movie to drop by since the 2016 announcement. Now, in November 2021, the third Magical Mike movie has finally been announced. The third installment in the series will be Magic Mike's Last Dance, a musical stage show.
The show has already been performed in Las Vegas and London as the production house for the film travels far and wide for the standing of the musical. Now, the show will come to North America in 2022. A spinoff series has also been based on the movie, helping dancers get into tune with their inner Magic Mike. The reality TV series focuses on bringing forward great dancers, teaching them tips, tricks, and moves to slay it at the dance shows, along with a cash prize to go along with it.
The series is yet destined to drop in with seven episodes and the winner of the show will get to appear on the Magic Mile live Stage this December in 2021, which will premiere on HBO Max.
