Last year in 2020, China's film market claimed the title of the world's biggest box office surpassing the massive film market of North America, ensuring that Hollywood will go in any direction and do everything possible to access the Chinese market. Thus, increasing the possibility of the Chinese government asserting itself more and more aggressively to control the Los Angeles-based film industry.

Earlier this year an incident where wrestler cum actor John Cena apologizing and even begging forgiveness from the Chinese people after calling the country of Taiwan a sovereign and an independent nation in an interview triggered the Chinese government and its people. The actor's bowing down to the Chinese pressure is not a new phenomenon but a part of a larger string of American actors apologizing for hurting the Chinese sentiment, not because somehow they love the communist nation, but the people and entities they work for are in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party to help them maintain the access to world's biggest film market.

Meanwhile, the Chinese film industry is now releasing out its own big-budget franchises, continuously lessening its dependence on Hollywood. Though some rare American directors have continuously pushed back the Chinese demand and agenda, the majority of the film industry continues to appease Beijing wherever and whenever possible. The industry is now at rapid risk of self-censorship, possibly even going back to the blacklist era of the 1940s, where the Hollywood industry infamously submitted to the pressure from domestic politics.

As the United States movie sector emerges from the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the previous administration's aggressive trade war with the Chinese. With the local fare continuously going downwards, the multiplex's at the Middle Kingdom is finding greater traction. It has almost become a widely accepted truth that the US-based film industry will not produce films that upsets Xi Jinping's Communist Party in any way.

The United States-based film industry derives its name from a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. Many of the film industry studios such as Columbia Pictures, Disney, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, Universal Pictures, Paramount studios were all founded in Los Angeles and all of them still have a studio there.
