Letitia Wright discusses how she learned of Chadwick Boseman's death.

Letitia Wright, star of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, discusses the moment she learned of Chadwick Boseman's death and what made her come back to the sets and play Shuri.

Letitia Wright appeared for a question-and-answer session following the SAG Awards screening of the recently released Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and held back her tears when she was asked about Chadwick Boseman.

The actress stated that she went to her email and discovered that someone had sent her an email expressing their condolences, and all Letitia could think about was condolences for what, then she noticed her phone filling up with messages. Letitia said that she thought to herself that she was going to make all of it go away and thought to call Chadwick Boseman, thinking that he would answer the phone and put an end to all of it.

Letitia Wright stated that she then noticed Daniel Kaluuya calling her, adding that he never calls someone because he is busy, so she called him and told him that he has five seconds to tell that all of this is not real, but he was extremely quiet, and she then began calling Chadwick Boseman from her other phone, and Daniel asked her what she was doing. The actress who plays Shuri in the movie admitted that when Daniel Kaluuya said, "Tish, the family," that's when she lost it.

Letitia Wright had recently shared with Entertainment Tonight's Nischelle Turner that she said to herself that she would honor Chadwick Boseman because she has a talent and she has to use it, adding that the character of Shuri is a blessing for her. The actress revealed that she got the role of Shuri because of Chadwick Boseman, who told the makers that she is his sister and they should stop auditioning people for her part.

She went on to say that if it happened to her, she would run away and roll in a rock to grieve, but it has to go somewhere; it has to be placed somewhere, and she mentioned that the script and Ryan Coogler, and then the question "why," pulled her out of her mindset, and that's how she prepared herself to begin working on the sequel. She explained that the movie is to honor her brother, and that’s exactly what they wanted to do.

Letitia spoke about how difficult it was for her to return and play Shuri because the character was the somewhat comic relief in the first film. She explained that she was struggling with the thought of coming back with Shuri, the ball of light, fun, and energy, admitting that she was a bit scared. Letitia described that she thought at the time that she didn't know if that's what she could do right now because that version of Shuri would take a lot of energy to exude. And she couldn't figure out how to do that without her brother, i.e., Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa and Black Panther.

She further said that when the director and writer Ryan Coogler let her know that how they were going to follow it was just from Shuri's perspective, she kind of decided that it was best for her to pour her heart into it, like every bit of it, and just tell the truth, adding that there is some sense of healing at the end of the movie, and she hopes for audiences to look for it and hold on.

According to Variety, actress Letitia Wright continues to attend therapy after a "traumatic" mishap on the $250 million Marvel tentpole set. In late August 2021, the star was injured in a motorcycle accident on set, which landed her in the hospital with a fragmented shoulder and a concussion, among many other injuries. According to Variety, the accident occurred on the Boston set of Wakanda Forever. The actress said that all she could think of was to finish the movie but the cast reminded her that she needs to rest and heal up leading to pausing the movie for a few months until she got better.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now in theatres.
