Black-ish had enjoyed a long run on screens lasting eight years as of this April 19, 2022. Now, the series has finally come to its iconic ends and things couldn't have been more interesting.

Black-ish ended up returning back to where things started in its finale of season eight this year. The series had begun in 2014, with Andre Johnson, played by Anthony Anderson being woken up by his iPhone alarm clock.

Similarly, the character has the same wake-up call after all these years and he wakes up giving a little insight into his mind and how he is feeling, just as he did in the pilot episode all those years ago. The music in the background featured the intro of Kanye West's song Jesus Walks. The same was seen this time around too, and it was chilling to see how far all of it has come in these years.

Sharing his life story, Andre talks about his physical attractiveness exclaiming that he is a moderately handsome and charming Black guy, who has found the means to change his broken conditions backward and actually do something with his life.

He jokes that he managed to do it without a "jump shot", becoming a number one hit or "being Tyler Perry." He shares that he managed to make a home for himself though the chances were not pretty great for him.

Now he has a caring and doting wife, and together they share five children. He also looks after his parents and despite having his childhood Compton as a normal, regular kid, he is now successful enough to live the American dream with his family.

The pilot episode's monologue was just about similar. The character had woken up from his sleep and chose to say that he is an old, yet moderately random guy, and had then also believed in his charm as a Black person.

The optimistic man had called his wife Rainbow a "drooling pigment-challenged mixed-race woman." He joked that not many people will look at her and guess that she is a doctor.

He relayed his gratitude for having a roof on his head, four children, and that he could care for his father. He also shared that he promised his parents that he will get a good education and then move out of the place. Yet, he had believed that even though he was living in the hood, he was also living the American dream.

Yet he joked that whoever would have thought of the American dream, would not have thought of it in the hood. The character also revealed his struggle with his brothers and how money had come between them.

Things take a different turn when Dre's parents finally come together and decide that they want to move out. The parents are played by Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis. As they plan to move out and leave some packed boxes in the front yard, they are met with an uneasy question from the neighbors, asking if all of them are moving out.

When Dre and Bow are asked if their house will be on sale now by Nicole Sullivan, the couple realizes that this is not the place they want to live. Hence, they should look forward to moving out.

It broke Dre to see that the neighborhood was not so happy with them staying at the place, even though they had lived there with an exceptional record for the past 17 years. At one time, Dre exclaims that he has realized that he was living the Black American dream and in this dream, it is common for such things to happen.

Despite their good conduct, the whole neighborhood still talked about them and that they never made the Dre family feel at home during their prolonged stay in the locality. There are instances of others looking at the Black family as an object of intrigue but nothing more.

Yet, Dre finds some hope for himself when he was working at Steven and Lido for a campaign. Here he meets the famous gymnast Simon Biles. She asks what he actually wants and that he is only supposed to do what he wants and not care about what anyone else needs from him.

Of course, the wanting part itself is not always clear, especially with the elections that happened recently in America, along with the prolonged pandemic. Dre agrees with Biles and exclaims that life is "too short" to not pursue what you have wanted. He decides to listen to the Olympic medalist and get along with whatever he had desired.

His wife agrees to his beautiful plan and together they decide that they will put their house in Sherman Oaks for sale and shift to a Black neighborhood. The kids were not very sure of the move at first but they found their own silver lining. The couple finally gets a gorgeous house in L.A.'s Park View.

The series has now finally bid its adieu but there are hops for a future spinoff.
