Kim Cattrall just wants to move on from Sex and the City.

Kim Cattrall, who is famously known for her role as Samantha Jones from Sex and the City, recently spoke about the reboot series "And Just Like That" and the public feud that followed the series.

During the interview with Variety’s cover story, "Power of Women" issue, Kim Cattrall said that she is firm with her decision not to return to the franchise in any capacity, as she added that it was great wisdom for her to know when it is enough. Kim added that she did not want to compromise on what the show was to her and the way forward seemed clear. She also revealed that she was never asked to be a part of the reboot as she had made her feelings about the third movie very clear, so she had found out about the reboot just the way everyone else did; via social media.

The actress shared her thoughts on how her character Samantha Jones was written out of the reboot, ‘And Just Like That’, by stating that she had moved to London, cutting off Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, after she was fired as her book publicist. Kim added that she felt that it was not the Samantha she played in the original show.

Kim Cattrall mentioned that she has not watched the show and mentioned that it’s similar to the scrapped ‘Sex and The City’ third movie and added that the series is the third movie and that is how clever the creative and makers were. Co-star Kristin Davis, who played Charlotte on the show, stated that according to her, the storyline of Samantha was great because it seemed real and true, as friends do grow apart sometimes in life and that is okay.

Kim Cattrall has previously shared in a candid interview with Piers Morgan that she was clear with her decision, an empowered decision in her life that she wanted to end one chapter and start another. She also admitted that the castmates were never friends. During her Variety interview, she mentioned that they were colleagues, and her colleagues were not her friends. She added that she would have been inclined towards the third movie if she felt inspired by Samantha’s future, which she wasn’t. Series creator Darren Star stated that it’s impossible to imagine the show without Samantha, aka Kim.

The actress who played the iconic character stated that she was pleased to play a good character in a show about women when she signed up for the show, but she soon realized that her character was morphing into someone who didn't celebrate independent women and was turning into a cougar. She also stated that Chris Noth's character, Mr. Big, was meant to die in the third film and that he did in the reboot series.

The actress has been busy with her TV projects like Hulu’s "How I Met Your Father," where she plays Sophie, and Peacock’s "Queer as Folk," where she appears as Brenda. Kim Cattrall is also going to appear in the upcoming comedy "About My Father" alongside Robert De Niro.

The How I Met Your Father actress wished her co-stars, whom she referred to as "acquaintances," the best, noting that it was difficult and frightening to stand up and not be pressured by the press, fans, or whomever—to simply say, "She's good." She added that she is on this track and it was great working with them. She so enjoyed it, but she’s over here. She acknowledged that there are still fans out there who would love to see her and she also has a feeling of wanting more and added that it feels powerful that she has left a legacy behind and she is very proud of it.

Kim Cattrall added that she loved Samantha Jones very much, and she is one tough competitor, and it feels clean to her. She recently explained during her Variety ‘Power of Women’ dinner that she does not like to be in a situation that she is not enjoying, even for an hour. While talking to the women in the audience, she encouraged them to own their power in the same way she did by declining the projects or parts that did not excite her. She added that saying no to the past is saying yes to the future because you are the screenwriter of your own life.

The 65-year-old actress remarked about how she lost her health insurance at the start of the pandemic because she was unemployed, but that she was fortunate to be able to pay her medical costs later on, but she noted that not everyone is so fortunate. As a result, she attended the event to show her support for The Actors Fund, an organization that provides financial aid and funds for medical procedures to people in the entertainment business.

Kim Cattrall added that if COVID has taught the people anything then it's that no matter how hard you work or how good you are, things may happen out of nowhere and knock you down. When this happens, it's time to provide a hand rather than pass judgment or retreat and acknowledged that the American Actors Fund has been doing just that every day for 140 years and appreciated them for their work.

Kim Cattrall was one of six honorees, along with Drew Barrymore, Venus Williams, Camila Cabello, Amanda Seyfried, and Queen Latifah, at the event, which honors women for outstanding accomplishments across the entertainment industry. Darren Star introduced the actress on stage by stating something that Samantha Jones would have said to him, he added that just like him she is someone who is strong, self-made woman who would rather take a road less taken and he admires her wicked sense of humour, her talent and above all her generous heart.
