How I Met Your Mother ended seven years ago but still continues to be one of the most beloved shows of all time. With an inexplicably original and relatable cast featuring Robin, Barney, Ted, Lily, and Marshall, the show ran for several seasons making countless fans love it. A series reboot had first been talked about with Lizzie McGuire's cast for the Disney+ spinoff, but the idea did not take off.
Now, more than seven years later since the original series finished airing, we will get to see another lovely cast following in the footsteps of the very original storyline as we see a mother retelling the story of her love life to her child. The series will be featuring Hillary Duff in the amiable role of the lead steering the How I Met Your Father series, which is to debut initially with 10 episodes on the Hulu streaming service. Marking the second time Duff will once again be seen on the TV screen, the actress had first worked on Younger, a series that continued for seven series.
Director Pam Fryman will get to hold the reins of the filmmaking aspect and holds the record of directing 196 out of the total 208 episodes from the OG series, HIMYM. While the original series did end on a problematic note, it would be great to see a storyline flowing from the same creative people that made How I Met Your Mother such an interesting project in the first place.
HIMYM was created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and now, the creators will be back for the new series, followed by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who will take on the spot for running the shoe. Announcing that the show is coming back, Bays and Thomas stated, “Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father." The Deadline announcement also included, "We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it.”
Here is everything you need to know about the new show:-
Who will Hillary Duff be playing in the show?
Duff gets to portray the lead role in the film, a girl named Sophie, through several stages in life. The show follows the narration of her life by Sophie herself as she retells the story of meeting her child's father to her son. The story starts right in 2021 where Sophie is seen amongst her close friends in New York City. Duff also gets to produce the series.
Talking about landing the role and how excited she is to portray the character of Sophie, Duff said, “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters, and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby.” In her interview with Deadline, the actress also said, “Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fan-girling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill, and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½s in there.”
The series is to be shot using both multi-camera and single-camera techniques, taking strongly after the original series and its shooting setup. The storyline perception will just shift to a female character retelling her various difficulties in getting to meet the man with whom she had her child as first told by Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor in the original series. Revolving around her love and professional life, the series will take you on an adventure as Sophie treks through the hardships of life along with her friends in Manhattan.
While Ted grew up in an age preceding the era of social media, Sophie traverses the dating landscape in the age of social media and dating apps. While we know that the 2021 storyline of Sophie is going to feature many differences from the original story, we are not yet sure if the creators have also planned for a Covid 19 mention in the plotline. As the spinoff of many series released in 2020 and 2021 went to portray the devastating effects of the pandemic in their run time, there is a slight chance that How I Met Your Father will also incorporate the pandemic plotline.
Other actors cast in the spinoff series"
The cast details of actors who will get to portray the inner circle of Sophie have been finally released. Now, the creators have announced that Francia Raisa from Grown-ish girl will be Sophie's roommate in New York City. Playing the character of Valentia, Raisa gets to be a close friend of Sophie and is also a stylist. She had been spending some time in London, getting to witness the London Fashion Week, and now as she came back to New York, she brought back a British Boyfriend named Charlie.
Enunciating Valentina's character, Deadlines said, “She's impulsive and adventurous, and Sophie relies on Valentina's ability to cheer her up when she gets down."
Sophie's future and older version, where she is a mother, will be played by Kim Cattrall, the Sex and the City alum. She gets to talk with the kids about their father. In the original series, Bob Saget had played the older version of Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby.
Tom Ainsley from Versailles is to play Charlie, Valentina's boyfriend, who is a model “living in a rich person's bubble his whole life.” The next character is Jesse, played by Chris Lowell from Veronica Mars. Jesse is an Uber Driver, a musician in making, living with his best friend, Sid, played by Suraj Sharma, a bar owner. Jesse also has an adopted sister, Ellen, played by Tien Train from Space Force. Ellen has just shifted from the high-strung life of New York to a small farming town as she ends her marriage with his wife.
