The 94th Academy Awards nominations were announced on 8th February 2022 and actress Nicole Kidman has been nominated under the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role for her exceptional character portrayal Lucille Ball in ‘Being the Ricardos’.

Nicole Kidman who played Lucille Ball in the movie shared that her audience was her family while she was preparing for the role. She explained, "I'd sit them on the couch and I'd do it and they'd be saying, 'Hey, you got a lot more work to do.' "

In a recent episode of The View, Nicole shared, "We had come back from (her native) Australia; we were jet-lagged. My kids (daughters Faith Margaret and Sunday Rose), my husband (Keith Urban) and I were having breakfast, and I thought the next morning was when they were announcing the nominations, so I was not aware," she continued. "And suddenly I get a FaceTime call and my kids are like, 'Your phone's going off—someone's FaceTiming you, Mom.' And I pick it up and they go, 'You've just been nominated for an Oscar,'”

Anyway, we're gonna be late, we gotta get going.” She added that her family has been always very supportive and part of her decision and quoted, "because, obviously, the family has to come and has to support — I'm asking for them to let me go and do it and take time away from them."

On sharing that they were her audience, Nicole revealed, "It's interesting, 'cause my daughter wants to be a director, as well. She's got that eye and she's watching." The actress went ahead and praised her husband Keith Urban and said, "And obviously my husband, sound is so important to him, so he can hear [what's needed]. And I was checking, always, the voice and the tone of the voice with him. So it feels incredibly shared, as a family."

And to Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., thank you for trusting me with the opportunity to inhabit your mother. Lucille Ball is one of Hollywood's greatest icons. She was ahead of her time."

Talking about Keith Urban, who took to his social media to congratulate his love on being nominated for the Academy Awards by posting a FaceTime call picture where Nicole Kidman is dressed as Lucille Ball and he wrote, "CONGRATS on your OSCAR nomination today babygirl! SO proud of you & all that you poured into this dual role. Lucille AND Lucy. We REALLY lived through it with you on this one, & you gave it EVERYTHING. Loving you always.”

Nicole Kidman shared with Deadline about being Lucille Ball, “There were many things aligned with her, that I’ve experienced or felt.” The actress also recalled that Sorkin wrote her an encouraging note to give her the motivation to make the role hers, “I’ve got the email he sent me. I remember re-reading it and re-reading it. It was I think three or four days into shooting and he’s such a beautiful writer. He just kept saying, ‘Make this your own. You’ve got everything else now and now it just has to be imbued with why I cast you.’”

She further added, “The passion and the desire to… Lucille was doing that in the decades that no one was doing that. I’ve seen footage of her on the set, going, ‘Put the camera here and do this and do that,’ and I don’t do that on a set, but the way in which she was like, ‘Let me do what I do,’ and it’s fascinating. Who would she have been using to lean on for that? I don’t know. And her ability to get back up and keep going… Lucille Ball has not been acknowledged in the sense of what she actually did in the industry. I was shocked. What she was doing as a woman was just phenomenal, with her body, with her mind, with her ability to challenge with her ideas and keep constantly pushing for more. There’s an enormous amount of inspiration, and also to be learnt from her, still.”

Congratulations to Nicole Kidman on her fifth Academy Award nomination!
