Jimmy Kimmel talks about the future of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel recently spoke about the future of Jimmy Kimmel Live! during an appearance on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast and hinted that he is considering ending his long-running series.

Jimmy Kimmel said that his contract with ABC ends in 2023, which has made him think about what could be the next step for him. He said he wished he knew what he was going to do, and there have been times when he says he can't do it anymore (Jimmy Kimmel Live!) and other times when he wonders what he would do if not that.

Jimmy added during the appearance that it's a very complicated situation and thing for him to decide, and there are some practical considerations and then there are family, friends, and coworkers to be considered before he takes any step for his future. Jimmy continued that he is going to stop doing the show at some point because he has no plans to do it forever, but he added that, to be honest, he has not yet decided what he will be doing, but he has surely been thinking about it a lot lately. The host added that whenever he decides to leave, he wants to do it on his terms like he explained that if he ever feels that they are repeating themselves with what they are putting out for the audience, he'll get the hint.

Jimmy Kimmel has been hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003 and also serves as the series creator and executive producer and mentioned in 2017 to Variety that he plans to do the show for another three years. Over the years the host has made the show more personal with passionate and emotional monologues about subjects including healthcare and gun control, which he implied is one of the parts of his job that has taken a toll on him.

Recently, Jimmy Kimmel was cut off by a commercial in Dallas while he was giving an emotional monologue on his show addressing the Texas school shooting. Jimmy took the matters into his own hands and tweeted that his friends in Dallas who are asking about the abrupt commercial in the middle of his monologue, he does not know much about it and will try to find out more but till then this is what they did not get to see. (He shared the link to the monologue)

WFAA wrote in response to they are very sorry about the abrupt commercial that cut off the monologue but explained it was an automated control room error and it had nothing to do with Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue. The director of digital content at WAFAA said that they had made the decision earlier in the day to extend their 10’o clock news to include extra unvalde coverage during the broadcast and it had nothing to do with the monologue.

Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue included a teary plea from the late-night host for lawmakers to take action and keep our country safe with gun reform. Jimmy Kimmel in his monologue urged the audience that if they care about ending gun violence, and that is something we all should care about. Then, we must do all we can to ensure that none of these people ever hold office again, regardless of whatever party we vote for.

Recently, James Corden announced that he will be ending his The Late Late Show With James Corden next year. James Corden spoke to Entertainment Tonight and shared that after a lot of thinking he came to make this decision and it was a hard one. James said that he felt like maybe they have done enough and wanted to try out other things in life. Other than James Corden, Ellen DeGeneres just finished her show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, after 19 years with an emotional farewell, and the last episode, which starred Jennifer Aniston, Billie Eilish, and P!nk, was recently broadcast.
