Is Samantha Jones returning?

In a recent interview with Variety, Michael Patrick King shared that there is a possibility that Samantha Jones might make a comeback on the show, "And Just Like That." The series is a reboot of 'Sex and the City' starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, that has been renewed for a second season.

During the conversation, Michael Patrick King was asked if fans can expect to see Samantha Jones’ storyline or a little detail about her character on the reboot show, to which he said "YES!" Michael Patrick King did not dwell too much on how they were planning to do it but shared that it’s all new and, according to his rules, he does not talk about things until they are real. The creator of the series said that his goal is to bring all the characters into the mix together so that they are not so much on separate runways. Samantha Jones' character appeared in season one via texts.

The reboot of "Sex and the City," "And Just Like That," features new actors including Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, and Karen Pittman, and Michael shared that the production for season 2 will begin in October and fans can expect the show to air around 2023. Season one ended with Miranda played by Cynthia Nixon leaving New York City and moving to LA for Che played by Sara Ramirez, and with Carrie Bradshaw played by Sarah Jessica Parker sharing a kiss with co-worker Franklyn, played by Ivan Hernandez.

"And Just Like That" follows the lives of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte in New York City in their 50s and without Samantha Jones played by Kim Cattrall in the original series and Mr. Big played by Chris Noth (who passed away in the first episode). Now, it’s not sure how the creator and writer will dwell on the story of Samantha Jones since actress Kim Cattrall, had refused to reprise her role for the third movie of ‘Sex and the City', so she was not asked for the reboot as well and had mentioned that she found out about the reboot via social media. Kim Cattrall also admitted that she was never close with any one of the people she worked with at the time and the makers turned the third movie into a series and called it a genius move.

Recently, Sarah Jessica Parker opened up about the fallout with Kim Cattrall and said that it’s hard for her to explain things when it comes to Kim, but she added that words like fight, dispute, spat, and argument are off the table. She clarified that there was no fight going on between the two actresses and no one had said a word about the situation from her end, but it had always been one person talking. When Sarah was asked if she’d be comfortable if Kim Cattrall was brought back on the show, she said that she does not think she would be comfortable with it because there has been so much public history of feelings on her part which she has shared.

Talking about new characters, Sara Ramirez plays Che Diaz on the show, who is a non-binary comic and is in a relationship with Miranda. While talking to Variety, Michael Patrick King said that for season two, his one burning passion is about Che, and he wants to show the dimension of Che that people did not see. Che Diaz, Sara said, is a complicated, messy individual who serves as a terrific reminder that even if we don't like someone in our community, they are still entitled to love, safety, and joy. The actress famously known to play Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy added that other people's perceptions of a character are not something that she can accept into her process and stated that she gets to choose what she gets, right? and concluded by saying that's the great thing about being an adult: she doesn't have to accept everything.
