Jack Black accepts the award for Comedic Genius at the MTV Movie and TV Awards 2022.

The 2022 MTV Movie and TV Awards were held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on June 5th 2022, where Jack Black was honored with the Comedic Genius Award. After a sizzle reel of the actor’s iconic moments was played for the audience on the screen, Awkwafina presented the award to Jack Black.

Awkwafina said that Jack Black is so much more than a guy who makes everyone laugh, he's a huge gamer, a facial hair connoisseur, a Grammy winner, and the only person on the earth whose Instagram would make you feel better about yourself since he's one of the nicest people on the planet. Jack Black arrived on stage after she introduced him, wearing a panda hat that fell off after the actor did some somersaults.

Jack Black, in his acceptance speech, jokingly said that comedic genius? C’mon, are you kidding? For what? And then he listed out his iconic movies, including School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda, Nacho Libre, Goosebumps, and Jumanji, and added that his TikTok where he dances is ridiculous, but he’ll take it. The actor then thanked MTV for the love and support and dedicated his award to all the School of Rock-ers out there and all the Tenacious disciples. Jack Black, who is the fifth recipient of the award that is given out to actors who have made a significant contribution to the comedic world by providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large, thanked his wife Tanya and the kids.

Before Jack Black, the award was given to Sacha Baron Cohen in 2021, Melissa McCarthy in 2016, Kevin Hart in 2015, and Will Ferrell in 2013. He is also a musician and a member of Tenacious D, a folk-rock comedy duo he co-founded with longtime collaborator Kyle Glass. The band has released four studio albums, the most recent of which being Post-Apocalypto in 2018, as well as two films, a six-episode cartoon series, and other media. After the show, Jack Black spoke to Entertainment Tonight and shared that while going into the award show, he felt the same as all performances of his life because he added that even though it's not technically a performance, when you get out there in front of a crowd, in front of a TV camera, the pressure's on and he gets terrified and stress about it for days he added.

Jack added that once he is out there on stage and can hear the roar of the crowd, he can feel the flames licking his butt and he is all about having fun. Talking about getting emotional while thanking his family while accepting the award, Jack said that he’s a clown who likes to throw down and mess around but at the end of the day he loves his family a d friends and that is what it’s all about. He expressed his immense gratitude to the fans for loving him and supporting him throughout his journey.

In addition to his comedic parts, Jack Black has also appeared in more serious films such as Bernie, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2013, and Peter Jackson's King Kong. Kung Fu Panda, like many other movie properties, is expanding into television with a completely new series dubbed Kung-Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, in which Jack Black will reprise his role as Po's voice. However, no details on who else will be joining Jack Black in the franchise or when the show would premiere have been revealed.
