Jennifer Lopez accepts the Generation Award.

The 2022 MTV Movie and TV Awards were held on June 5th, 2022 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, where Jennifer Lopez was honored with the Generation Award. A montage of her movies was played before she was called up on stage and presented with the award by the host of the evening, Vanessa Hudgens.

The queen remarked in her acceptance speech that when she looks at those films, she sees all of the beautiful people she has been fortunate to meet and work with and that a person is only as good as the people with whom he or she works. According to the actress-singer, if people are lucky, the people they work with make them better, and she has been fortunate in this situation.

Jennifer Lopez went on to say that while she is not like any of the women she has played on screen, there is a part of them that is incredibly genuine to her, and she treasures that every day. Because one cannot create the truth unless one has lived it, the Marry Me actress added that she has a different kind of list of thanks, stating that she wants to thank everyone who has given her the life she has now, including those who have given her joy and those who have broken her heart, as well as those who have been true to her and those who have been dishonest to her. Jennifer Lopez thanked everyone, including her true love, before saying that she wants to thank the way she lied to herself because that is how she knew that she had to grow.

Jennifer added a thank you to all the disappointments and failures she faced in life for teaching her to be strong and her children for teaching her how to love. The actress said thank you to everyone who told her to her face or when she was not in the room that she could not make it and said that she could not have made it this far without any one of the people mentioned. Then she said thank you to her fans for the love and support and mentioned that she could not have done it without them. Jennifer Lopez thanked her manager, Benny Medina, whom she described as a person who knows the meaning of "ride or die" and added that Benny believed in her since the first time she played him a raggedy little tape of a song that she had written that day. She also added that Ben Affleck and everybody at home is waiting for her at home to celebrate and have dinner. She’ll be home by 7.

Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Pratt, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, and the Fast & Furious franchise, among others, have previously received the Generation Award at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. The award is given to honor the actor whose contribution in both movies and television is significant and has made them a household name.

Jennifer Lopez spoke to Rolling Stone in February and shared that she felt she had to struggle for recognition in Hollywood after years of not being recognized for her acting and singing achievements. The diva added that at the time she had a feeling that she was not intended to be in a room but she pretended to be okay with it but she was not because it hurts.
