On the third day at the stand, Johnny Depp explained the infamous Amber Heard’s 30th birthday party incident in 2016 where Amber Heard alleged that Johnny Depp had hit her and left. The actress testified in 2020 during Johnny Depp’s lawsuit battle against the publishers of The Sun newspaper (which Johnny Depp lost).

Amber had said that he turned up late for her birthday party, and he hit her and took off just like always. She added that she fell asleep again alone in the house and was woken up on her 30th birthday covered in glass. She added in her testimony that she was heartbroken.

In 2020, Johnny Depp said that he did not abuse or hit Amber Heard on her 30th birthday, but he did admit that he left the house after Amber Heard grew angry at him about his tardiness at her birthday dinner. On Thursday, Johnny Depp explained why he was late for her 30th birthday dinner party.

Johnny Depp said that he arrived two hours later at her birthday dinner party after a meeting with his accountants and was shocked to see the state of his finances, as he explained that quite an inordinate sum of money had been withdrawn and it had disappeared, and he was shocked to see his finances after he had been working for almost thirty years. He added that some of his houses might have to be sold due to the state of his accounts.

Johnny Depp was not in the mood for a birthday dinner and was quite cold towards her that night, but when she tried to get into an argument with him, he went to bed. Johnny Depp said that he was laying on his side of the bed when she entered the room and kept reminding him of all the wrong and hurtful things he had done to her on that particular day, along with stating how unreliable he was and how horrible a person he was.

Johnny Depp said that he did not engage in any verbal communication with her but he stood up, grabbed her by the shoulders and sat her down on the bed and said that he was leaving, and asked her not to come after him or stop him, but Amber Heard stood up and squared off against Johnny at the door, to which he said to her that she could hit him if that is what she wanted and he added BAM (motions of being hit) and another one. Johnny grabbed Amber by her shoulders, walked her to bed, and left the house around 4:30 AM.

There was an incident that was mentioned during the cross examination where Ben Rottenborn asked Johnny Depp about the one time his father had hit him. Johnny admitted that he was 15 years old and his father had asked him to take the dog for a walk or take out the garbage and he refused so that is when he gave him a quick shot.

Johnny Depp also recalled and shared with the court that their final meeting in 2016 was when Amber Heard made claims that he had hit her. Johnny described how Amber Heard’s friend Rocky Pennington ran into the penthouse and as he walked to his kitchen to exit and was 20 feet away from her, Rocky started yelling at him to leave her alone. He explained that she was on the couch and he was standing by the refrigerator confused and started yelling, "Stop hitting me, Johnny!" in her best freak-out voice. That is when Johnny Depp mentioned that his security team, Sean Bett and Jerry Judge, entered the room, and then Amber Heard said that this was the last time he’d ever hit her and he was 20 feet away from her.

Sean Bett, during his testimony, also described the incident like Johnny Depp did, saying that Sean and Jerry entered the room when they heard Amber Heard use the word "profanities".

During the testimony, the actor also admitted that before boarding the flight from Boston to Los Angeles in 2014, he and Amber Heard had a heated argument because he feared that Amber was having an affair with James Franco, and a day after the flight, he sent her a text apologizing for his behavior. Johnny Depp also praised Amber Heard for being a good friend to Elton John, who was helping him get clean. In a letter written to Elton, Johnny Depp wrote that his kids love Amber Heard and he feels that the pressure is off his shoulder, but it all depends on Vanessa Paradis, whom he feared could brainwash his kids.

Johnny Depp also described an incident where he mentioned that Amber Heard had claimed that he had broken her nose but that's not how it happened. He described that he was walking into his office when she started throwing punches him and he tried to avoid the attack. The actor stood up and acted the entire scene out how it happened.

Johnny continued and said that he walked across the mezzanine and she clobbered him from behind and in order to protect his face, he put his arms up and bear hugged Amber Heard so that she would stop hitting him. And that's when she accused him of headbutting her and said that he had broken her nose. He added that it was an accident and he was not trying to hurt her. The actor claimed that the actress showed him a bloody tissue but when he checked, it was the nail polish.

Amber Heard will be taking the stand as well, and the trial is expected to last for six weeks. The trial is going to resume next week.
