Kaia Gerber expresses advice she received from her mother, Cindy Crawford along with addressing the "Nepo Baby" debate.
Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford, is the latest celebrity to weigh in on the ongoing "Nepo Baby" debate after Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Hudson, Tom Hanks, Lottie Moss, Lily Allen etc.
On the cover of Elle's February 2023 issue, Kaia Gerber shared the wisdom she received from her supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford, about the industry when she was a teenager. Kaia said that her mother always told her to be on time, take the time to learn people’s names, and always be nice to the people around her.
Kaia claims Cindy told her that if she is not grateful and pleased to be where she is, another person will be and so when Kaia is exhausted, or wants to return home, or feels so lonely, the 21-year-old model reminds herself how extremely lucky she was to be in that position. Kaia Gerber told the publication that her supermodel mother discussed her remorse with her and tried to warn her not to make the same error she did, which was not writing enough about the experiences she had.
The model explained that she reminded her that sometimes people assume that they will just remember the amazing moments forever, and then it’s hard to even remember the shoot or what happened and when it happened, which is why she asked Kaia Gerber to journal more, which she does.
Naturally, Kaia was discussed in the "Nepo Baby" piece spotlighted in New York Magazine's December 2022 issue, showcasing an array of celebrities' children who may have profited from their parents' designation and connect directly in Hollywood. She is the daughter of Rande Gerber who is the co-founder of Casamigos and is nightlife entrepreneur and of course one of the iconic runway models of all time, Cindy Crawford.
Kaia stated that she will not deny the privilege that she has, adding that even if it is just having a great source of information and someone to give her great advice, she considers herself very fortunate. The model added that her mom always joked that if she could call and book a Chanel campaign, it would be for her and not Kaia. But she said that she has also met amazing people through her mom, with whom she is now working. Kaia concludes that yes, nepotism is prevalent, but she thinks if it was what people make it out to be, people would see even more of it.
Kaia Gerber appeared recently in Babylon and currently has additional projects on the way. When asked about it, she said, acting is so distinctive, adding that no artist would willingly give up their perspective for another person's child. That's not the way art is made, and art is just what she's willing to take part in. Furthermore, no one wishes to collaborate with an individual who is infuriating, challenging to collaborate with, or impolite.
During the interview, Kaia shared that when she first came into the crosshairs of model-off-duty style, she explained that she put a lot of effort into it. Then she realized that she wanted to be comfortable, mentioning that if people have seen her anytime in the last two years, she is most likely wearing sweatpants because her priority is just somewhere else now. The interviewer noted that people can get the feeling she’s not just talking about fashion, as she adds that she has gone back to who she is at her core. Kaia also mentioned that it’s scary to let her personality shine through, especially when people ask her how she deals with rejection in modeling. She stated that it can be scary to show oneself because it opens them up to criticism and for people to not agree with them or like them, but she thinks she just came into herself more.
Kaia also spoke about her mental health post-pandemic and said that she has developed much deeper relationships in her life and also a connection with herself. She added that her personal life and mental health are not something she is willing to sacrifice for her job ever again. Right now, Kaia said that she is getting to work from home, which is a beautiful thing, and not travel all the time. She comes home, and she is with her dog; she has friends; she is cooking dinner; she sees her therapist; and she is with her family.
