Kim Kardashian expresses her concerns for Marilyn Monroe's Met Gala 2022 gown!
On the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian was heard talking about how she expects people to react to her Met Gala look. She said that she is a little nervous that some people will hate that she donned Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress.
During a conversation with hairstylist Chris Appleton, she revealed that no one is allowed to touch the dress, that they will have to put up barriers to get her out of the hotel in a robe, and that they will be putting a dressing thing on the red carpet because she cannot wear it and sit in the car. After all, it is too fragile. She went on to say that losing weight, dying her hair for 30 hours, leaving the hotel in a robe, walking to the red carpet, changing into the original dress for just walking to the red carpet, and then changing into the replica of the dress because they can't risk sitting in the original one and eating dinner was all for maybe 10 minutes of her life.
It was reported at the time that Kim Kardashian only wore the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress until she walked the Met stairs and quickly changed into a replica of it as soon as she was inside the hall because the museum of Ripley's Believe It or Not wouldn't let her and someone from their team was only five to ten steps away in case something happened to the dress. The museum said that they took all the measures to make sure that the dress was returned the way it was, and it was.
Kim Kardashian said further in the episode that she loves Marilyn Monroe and that the fact that she was a normal girl who figured it out and became the most famous woman in the entire world is just fascinating. The beauty mogul added that the 2022 Met Gala for her is all about dedication and hard work, having her voice and vision, being determined, and making shit happen—and she has never had this much willpower in her life before.
In the previous episode, Kim Kardashian shared that no one believed them for years to send the clothes samples, however, once they got to Paris and tried the samples on, people were like, she appears to fit in their stuff. Kim went on to say that she doesn't know how to persuade the man who owns the original Marilyn Monroe gown that she is a shapeshifter. She also said that she had no backup for the Met Gala so if the dress did not fit her, she would have opted out of the gala.
The SKIMS founder did not fit into the original dress, even though she did in the sample one, so she worked extra hard, stayed dedicated with a goal in her mind, and lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into the dress. Kim Kardashian flew to Florida to try it on, and she did fit into it, but she stated that she will continue to work out and that when she thought about going in her dress, she knew how precious and fragile the dress was, and she knew that she needed to lose at least 10 pounds for it to even go up.
After receiving backlash for her extensive weight loss to fit into a dress, Kim Kardashian later clarified that it was a challenge, and exhausting, but it felt like a movie role, and she was determined to fit into it. Later, allegations surfaced that Kim Kardashian had damaged the dress by wearing it, which Ripley's later denied, stating that she did not harm or damage the dress in any way because she only wore it for 10 minutes before changing into the replica.
Designer Bob Mackie shared with Entertainment Tonight that Kim Kardashian wearing the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress was a big mistake because Marilyn Monroe was a goddess, a crazy goddess, but she was fabulous and no one pictures her the way she does, and the dress was designed especially for her, done for her, and no one else should be seen in that dress.
