Kit Harington, the Game of Thrones star, recently starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Eternals," and he recently revealed more about his new role. In Chloé Zhao’s ambitious blockbuster, Eternals, Kit Harington plays the character of Dane Whitman, a caring museum worker. Dane Whitman is also the present-day love interest of Gemma Chan’s character named Sersi who was once involved with Ikaris, which is portrayed by Richard Madden. It is to be noted that Richard Madden is one of Kit Harington’s closest friends as the two appeared as half-brothers in "Game Of Thrones".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harington felt a bit uncertain about joining another franchise so soon after the completion of "Game of Thrones", but he was tempted to play a compelling character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which seemed like too much to pass up. The actor shared, "There was — and there is — a hesitancy after you’ve been in something for so long that is a franchise piece or a recurring story, [and you’re asked] to do that again. But I’ve been a Marvel fan for a long time, and when that call comes, your ears do prick up. Then it really relies on whom the character is and whether you’re interested in that character. I’ve turned down a big role in a superhero-style franchise before because the character wasn’t right. But this one felt right for a number of reasons, personally, and it just piqued my interest as an actor."

Game of Thrones fans was excited to see Kit Harington and Richard Madden on-screen once again after Game of Thrones ended. Talking about their ‘reunion’, Kit shared, "I’ve said this a few times, but it’s true: we really didn’t have a lot of time on set together on Game of Thrones. So it’s strange. Our closeness is not built in front of the camera; it’s built behind the camera. For fans of Game of Thrones, to see two major roles from that world in another one feels like a bigger thing than it does to me and Richard."

Richard Madden played Rob Stark and Kit Harington played Jon Snow on the successful and critically acclaimed show, "Game of Thrones". When Richard Madden was asked the same question about working with Kit after GOT, he said jokingly, "It was terrible. I hated it the first time, and I hated it, even more, the second time. No, it was great seeing Kit again and being on set with Kit again. And actually, I remember that night of me, you (Chan), and Kit being there. And we’re all friends off-camera, and we’ve actually gone drinking in Camden. And so I flew in and stood in the cold with you guys. It felt like another Friday night in Camden."

Talking about Dane Whitman’s future in the Marvel Universe, Kit Harington said that there is no roadmap that I know at the moment. He further added, "If they have ideas about where my character goes, I’m not privy to it. All I know is that when I came on board, they said, ‘There’s a fascinating future for this character, and if you read up about him, there are many ways we could go with him.’ And that intrigues me. I’m fascinated by the idea that any character in any story is driven by some addiction to something. And with [Dane Whitman], it’s very palpable that this sword, this blade, has an addictive pull on him, and I find that fascinating."

The Eternals star also discussed Chloé Zhao’s affinity for natural light and how that has impacted his performance in the movie, Kit shared that he found the process of working under natural light very freeing. He further added, "There were a lot of single-camera roving shots. If I compare it to some of the work I’ve done in the past, "Here’s the wide, here’s the medium, here’s the close, everything’s on a track, or here’s your mark." With Thrones, for example, you’re wrapped up in a big cloak, so it all becomes very restrictive, and you’ve got to work within those parameters and those restrictions. With Eternals, I just felt a lot freer. For a start, I was in a modern costume, a contemporary costume. The camera was roving in a very free-flowing way, and Chloé Zhao was shooting with a lot of natural light, so there weren’t massively long setups to do with lighting. That made it feel like a very different thing that I was working on, and I enjoyed it".

When asked about the possible reunion with Emilia Clarke in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kit Harington said that they have no plans as of now, but if that happens, it would blow his mind. The actor shared, "I think because Emilia and I had a lot together. So if we ended up crossing paths in a different franchise, I think we’d have a good old giggle about that". Kit Harington also addressed that he feels incredibly proud and happy that he is a part of a franchise and a movie that has a queer representative. He added, "I've said before, I don't know why we haven't got LGBTQ+ representation in superhero movies, and in this one we do, and that's just so important. I think it is such a moment, and all I can hope is that this is the start of many, many more."

Kit Harington added that Phastos is one of his favorite characters in the movie and called the character "awesome". "It was a big reason I wanted to be part of this", he added. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he also shared that he loves to work on location more than anything, and it’s tough and grueling. Of everyone, he knows how difficult it is to work on a mountain somewhere. He added lastly, "But I think it physically wakes you up as an actor." You have to keep yourself alert on a sound stage if you’re there for 14-hour days. You can get into this monotonous zone where your acting can suffer from it. I love location work; this provided that. I didn’t do anything on Eternals that was on a sound stage. Not a single scene. That was surprising to me, but it was a real gift from this film. Chloé insisted on that. We wanted to do as much as possible on location, and that’s the way we worked on Game of Thrones. It brings the real world to these pieces."

Eternals are streaming in theaters and include Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.
