Are we finally going to see Kristen Stewart in the role of Joker, now that a fan campaign is urging the Spencer actress to take up the role alongside Robert Pattinson in The Batman? Well, Kristen Stewart's answer was a little less affirmative than many would wish.

The Twilight fame actress Kristen Stewart has finally replied to the fan campaign that had demanded that the American actress be cast for the role of Joker.

Stewart had started her career in Hollywood with an array of child acting roles and then into teen roles as she grew up in the world of glitter and glam. But it was being cast as Bella Swan in the Twilight franchise taking after Stephanie Meyer's Twilight novel series, that the actress got her big break.

The films took strongly after the vampire plotline of the bestselling novels, and the compelling coming-of-age, young adult, and vampire trope soon took over film fanatics by a rage. The series also launched other cast members apart from Kristen Stewart into stardom. Robert Pattinson, who played the mysterious, immortal vampire character, Edward Cullen, still continues to be a favorite among teenagers and has since worked in countless big projects.

Kristen Stewart, too, after leaving behind the days of a clumsy teenager that she played in the vampire movie franchise, has taken on many challenging roles over the years and most recently was cast as Princess Diana in the biopic Spencer. Both Pattinson and Stewart have made clear their views on the Twilight franchise, and despite the ultimate celebrity status they won with film, they do not hold the series in much esteem.

Kristen has now worked on versatile projects ranging from documentaries, indie fare films, and megamillion studio projects. Apart from initially hit film Twilight, her most famous works include Camp X-Ray, American Ultra, Charlie's Angels, Personal Shopper, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Underwater, Seberg, and of course, the much critically acclaimed and appreciated the film, Spencer.

Pattinson himself has catapulted himself into a great career pathline using his Twilight popularity and did excellent work in indie fair projects while steering clear of big projects. His appreciable works include Good Time, The Lost City of Z, High Life, The Lighthouse, and The King. His two big projects that are now the talk of the town are Tenant by Christopher Nolan and the latest Marvel release that can't release soon enough for anxious fans, The Batman by Matt Reeves.

He will be joined on set by Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and the film is already up and running high on production. But what came as a surprise in the film's timeline was many fans uniting and starting an online campaign demanding that Kristen Stewart get to work with her flame from the Twilight days, Robert Pattinson again in The Batman.

Kristen was, of course, humbled by the love she was receiving and opened up in an interview with Variety, saying that she appreciated the "energy behind that." And yet, the actress said that she is more inclined on accepting a work that explores "something new" than trying refreshing something that is already done again and again. Continuing on the thought, she had proceeded, "...but I love that gusto. Let's figure something else out. I'm totally down to play a freaky, scary person," as the character of Joker is, but not Joker himself because he has already been played enough. Hence, while her answer wasn't a firm no in essence, she is more open to choosing a new adventure than the road that is already too frequently traveled.

The character of Joker is one in Hollywood that has already had quite an extensive portrayal. The character was first seen in his live-action appearance along with the Batman TV show in the 1960s, and the role was undertaken by Cesar Romero. The next actor to take on the torch for Joker was Jack Nicholson in the 1989 Batman film by Tim Burton. But the most remembered portrayal of the iconic character has to be that by Heath Ledger.

The actor was even posthumously honored with an Oscar award for his portrayal of the character in The Dark Knight as he went skin deep to represent the Clown Prince of Crime in the Christopher Nolan film. Others to honor the role are Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix, and Star Wars’ Mark Hamil, who voiced the character many times in DC’s animated versions of the character.

Stewart is possibly not open to portraying scheme-ploy roles like the Joker despite the coherent public call to see iconic roles like James Bond and Joker himself in female portrayals. But actors Kristen James Bond's Daniel Craig is of the view that instead of getting women to play the female version of a male character, "there should simply be better parts for women and actors of color." And that there "should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman," as said by Daniel Craig.

While you might get to see a female Joker some or the other time, it isn't going to Kristen Stewart.
