Recently, Scarlett Johansson sued Disney+ for releasing her only movie Black Widow on their OTT platform Disney+. According to the reports, Scarlet Johansson will lose around 50 million US dollars because of the simultaneous release of Black Widow on Disney+. She also claims that the film's box office earnings will be severely affected by the OTT release.

Disney reasonably rejected the lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson, reasoning that they did not sign any contract with Scarlet Johansson regarding the simultaneous release of the Black widow. The official statement from Disney also added that it was pretty disgraceful and saddening as one of the finest actresses from the industry has filed a lawsuit because of COVID-19 global pandemic delays.

Lack of Support For Scarlett Johansson:

We will have to wait for the results as they will now be decided in court. Nobody is clear about the results, but one thing about which all of us are sure is no actor or actress from the grand Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU has turned up to defend Scarlet Johansson.

Moreover, Marvel Studios owner Kevin Fiege also added that he is pretty angry and embarrassed towards the lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson.

In comparison, Scarlett Johansson is still fighting alone without any support from any other actor in the industry. Perhaps, Black Widow will also be the last time we see Scarlett Johansson working with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Secondly, the incident also highlights that female Hollywood stars are paid relatively less when compared to their male counterparts. Undoubtedly, all of us would wonder if Robert Downey or Hemsworth will file a lawsuit against Disney over pay issues.

In 2013 Robert Downey refused to work with Marvel Studios if they don’t meet his salary demands.

Most of the renowned filmmakers are also disappointed by MCU’s decision to gain subscriptions over theatrical releases. On the other hand, Gerald Butler has also filed a lawsuit against the producer of Olympus has Fallen, citing payment issues.

All in all, Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit has added petrol to the firing debate of theatrical Vs. OTT. There is also no doubt that Scarlett Johansson is failing without any support from co-workers working with Marvel Studios.
