Louis Tomlinson talks about One Direction's hiatus.

During a recent interview with The Times, Louis Tomlinson discussed One Direction's hiatus and how it affected him ahead of his documentary featuring his One Direction days with the fellow band members and his friends.

Louis said that when One Direction split up in 2015, he was mortified, adding that he was gutted. He mentioned that he was a bit bitter and explained that he felt that way because it just felt like another loss to him, but noted that he has a better understanding of things now and there is not as much anger. It is what it is.

The band, which was formed in the 2010 series of The X Factor U.K. and is made up of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne, announced they were going on hiatus in August 2015. Johannah Deakin, Louis Tomlinson's mother, passed away from leukemia the very next year at the age of 42. Félicité, his 18-year-old sister, passed away two years later after an accidental overdose of cocaine, pain relievers, and anxiety medication.

Louis Tomlinson shared that however things ended for the band back in 2015, he would still be up for a reunion with the boys, adding that getting back together at some point is hard to imagine right now, but he’d be surprised if they lived out their lives and did not have a moment where they had a reunion or whatever people would want to call it.

The singer admitted that he does miss the boys, and he misses being one of the five, but he also likes doing his own thing. It was time. Since leaving One Direction, Louis Tomlinson has released two solo albums, Walls in 2020 and Faith in the Future in 2022, the latter of which reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 5 in the United States. Louis Tomlinson also applauded fellow band member Harry Styles on his two Grammys and four BRIT Awards, and said it's not exactly a surprise that he's managed to accomplish so much.

Louis stated that they've been perpetually conscious that Harry fit that mold, which has been incredible to witness. He was asked if he was ever envy of Harry Styles' success to which he said maybe at first. Louis explained that maybe it was when he trying to find his feet, but trying to compare one's success to others is never productive, is it? He adds that he is beginning to learn to uplift himself in those instants when he needs to add that he had no idea how to do it before, but now, he says he has realized that he fucking can.

He was also asked to comment on Harry Styles' controversial acceptance speech at the Grammys, where he said that winning the awards "doesn't happen to people like me very often". Louis Tomlinson said that only Harry understands what he meant with that statement adding that they all came from humble beginnings, and now they're here.

Harry Styles thanked his One Direction bandmates during his acceptance speech for British artist of the year at the BRITs earlier this month. He said he wants to thank his mum for signing him up for X Factor without telling him, so he literally wouldn't be here without her. The Grammy winner also went ahead to mention that he wants to thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn because he wouldn't be here without them either. Thank you so much.
