5 Seconds of Summer, guitarist Michael Clifford, and now-wife Crystal Leigh are celebrating their first wedding anniversary!

Michael Clifford took to his social media to share the news with the world on 11th January 2022, that he and his long-time partner Crystal Leigh got married in secret a year ago at their home backyard and are now celebrating their first anniversary. He captioned those pictures, “couldn’t wait any longer to make her Mrs. Clifford.”

According to reports, Michael Clifford proposed to former talent manager, Crystal Leigh in January 2019 at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort in Bali and the couple had originally planned a Bali wedding for 11th January 2021, which would also mark their five years of togetherness. But due to covid-19 travel restrictions, the two decided to postpone their wedding until the situation would be normal and their parents and friends could travel for their wedding. But eventually, the couple decided to go ahead with their original plan to get married on 11th January 2021, but decided to set up an entire wedding in their backyard rather than Bali.

When Michael proposed to Crystal in January 2019, he shared on his social media, "I was lucky enough to ask the love of my life to marry me in the place it all began for us. In the last 3 years, she has helped evolve and shape who I am in ways I could never have imagined. I couldn't ask for anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. I love loving you, Crystal."

Fawn Events planned the couple’s wedding gathering with The Summer Set lead vocalist Brian Dales officiating the wedding. Brian Dales is one of the closest friends of the couple who also wrote an original song for them. Michael and Crystal hosted their ‘secret save the date gathering’ and signed the legal documents in the presence of their wedding party at their new home which is currently under renovation.

For the wedding gathering and ‘secret wedding’, Crystal Leigh wore two dresses by designed Galia Lahav. Crystal's first gown featured a bustier neckline and an A-line skirt with semi-sheer detailing and crystal embellishment. For the second dress, the former talent manager changed into a white long-sleeve gown, showcasing the modern bride she is.

The former talent manager accessorized her look with Maria Elena Headpiece and her engagement ring which the guitarist had engraved with a phrase, ‘Love Loving You’. Michael Clifford wore a tuxedo by Yves Saint Laurent for the ‘secret ceremony’.

The couple although did get married on 11th January 2021 legally as they’ve wanted, has also assured the fans that they are saving some of the important moments for the official ceremony which also includes exchanging of their vows. Crystal Leigh said, "I really wanted to save all of the traditional special wedding moments for our actual ceremony so I'm able to enjoy them with my mom. We're actually both only children, so we want to make sure all of our parents get to experience every aspect of our wedding since they only get to do it once! No pressure."

Michael Clifford also shared that he may or may not have written a song for his lady love that he is planning to play at their real wedding. But for their ‘secret wedding’, the couple enjoyed a lot of songs from a collaborative Spotify playlist from the wedding party in which Michael snuck the songs of Nickelback too.

The couple told People magazine, "We were most excited to be near our friends all together for the first time in a while due to COVID. To be officially married, even in secret, was so special for us too — officially Mr. and Mrs." One of the special moments that Crystal Leigh shared was when Michael’s dear friend and bandmate, Luke Hemmings’ fiancée Sierra Deaton gifted Crystal a framed picture of her late father so that he could be there for his daughter on her special day. Luke Hemmings and Sierra Deaton also took over the stage and performed a duet for the newlyweds, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’.

Crystal and Michael also shared a funny incident from their secret wedding, "We had built a small stage in our backyard with no idea if anyone was even going to use it, and Crystal's maid of honor Abbey decided to get on stage and deliver a speech that was totally unplanned after Calum had given one. She had a few wines by that point, so it was pretty hilarious!"  The couple has postponed their honeymoon for now due to a pandemic shared, "Our honeymoon was amazing. We said we wanted no construction workers at our house for three days. We got about a day of silence. We just hope to honeymoon in Bali with all of our friends and family after the real wedding."

The attendees at the ‘secret wedding’ were of course 5 Seconds of Summer bandmates and close friends Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin. The boys recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary. The band is currently preparing for their upcoming 2022 North American and European tour which is set to kick off in Dublin, Ireland in April.
