Mishael Morgan makes history by becoming the first Black actress to win a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress!

Actress Mishael Morgan, who won Outstanding Lead Actress at the Daytime Emmys in 2022 for portraying Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless on Friday, created history as she became the first black actress to win a Daytime Emmy under the category of Outstanding Lead Actress.

The long-running CBS soap opera, 'The Young and the Restless', Amanda Sinclair is portrayed by Mishael Morgan, who was previously nominated for two Emmys in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category but didn't win.

The actress proudly took the stage to thank her family and fans for their tremendous support and love and received a standing ovation from the audience. While accepting her award, Mishael Morgan said that she was raised on a small island in the Caribbean, but now, in spite of her passport and skin color, she is recognized among so many other talented people for being the best at what she does on a global stage. Mishael added that there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry or the vocation, they can strive to be the best.

The actress continued by expressing her gratitude to her fans and everyone who welcomed her when she appeared on the show from home. She also expressed her pride in the current generation for constantly attempting to shatter glass ceilings and how honored she felt to be a vessel for and witness this moment. Mishael said that everybody out there can do this thing called equality and unity.

After the ceremony, the actress spoke to Entertainment Tonight where she explained that she was emotional with her win because not only did she create history but also remembered her late father and said that she knew it, she felt it and she was still in a level of disbelief. Mishael revealed that she kept thinking about her father and felt that they had succeeded. She claimed that as a child, her dad frequently told her that she needed to be 10 times better; today, she wants to build a society in which this is not necessary.

Mishael added that she wants everyone to be as they are and know that they are great and celebrated throughout and mentioned that girls that look like her and girls that do not look like her, all different colors of the rainbow, can now know that the glass ceiling is broken and they do not have any excuse left.

Mishael Morgan's father passed away in November of last year at the age of 67. The actress sent the invitation to his memorial ceremony on Instagram after he passed away. No words and a sorrowful emoji were all that were included in her caption. The actress told Nischelle Turner that she injured her neck in a vehicle accident when she was young and that if her body had been under 10 percent more strain, she would have become paralyzed from the neck down.

Mishael Morgan also shared about how she felt embarrassed as a child of immigrants for dreaming big and added that being an attorney or doctor is a big dream for her. The actress revealed that she admitted to her parents that she was going to commit to acting two weeks before she was set to start law school and shared that they lost their minds but were happy for her.

Congratulations to Mishael Morgan
