The opening of the film happens with the incredible portrayal of a mysterious character called Mona Lisa which is played by Jeon who is using Supernatural Powers to get away from the highest security section of a mental asylum in the town of New Orleans and after running away from the cops, Mona Lisa finds herself in the disorderly French Quarter of the city where she has come to the rescue of a bizarre dancer but a great single mother named Bonnie which is played by Kate Hudson, who in turn takes her in. This is the story of these two strong and young women.

As Mona Lisa loves Junk Food and Underdogs, she becomes very good friends with Bonnie's younger son Charles and a local drug dealer played by Ed Skrein. Both of them are untroubled by the superpowers and extra worldly abilities of the Mona Lisa. Right before the premiere of the film at Venice Film Festival, the English born American- Iranian Filmmaker Amirpour said in an interview with Reuters about this profound friendship that is portrayed in the film, "I wanted to find what's optimistic about this madness that we are all in. And I do think friendship is such a defining and important thing. It feeds us so much and it can take so many forms".

Amirpour's 2016 film "The Bad Batch", which was a dystopian thriller, also premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Amirpour is excited about casting Hudson and Jeon. "That's freedom. That's exciting." Amirpour said in a news conference while also mentioning that she wanted to create an unusual type of protagonist, the hero who can reinvent herself to fit in different environments and this is what Mona Lisa is. Hudson told Reuters in an interview about the same, "I think there's this sort of liberating thing to be able to just live as you want and not care what other people think about your choices. And it was fun to get into that with Bonnie". It seems that she thoroughly enjoyed playing the character of Bonnie. We are also excited to watch Bonnie and Mona Lisa on screen. Aren't we?
