Nayte Olukoya explains his split from Michelle Young.

During a recent appearance on The Viall Files podcast, Bachelorette alum Nayte Olukoya opened up about his split with Michelle Young and revealed that it was he who initiated the breakup after a bad weekend together.

It was Michelle Young's birthday weekend, and they were all in Los Angeles since they were invited for a Wango Tango event. Nayte said that he broke up with Michelle Young over the phone and added that you shouldn't break up with someone, especially someone who is your fiancée, over the phone. Nayte said that things were sort of tough for them at the start of the weekend, and when they were at the Wango Tango event, things heated up.

The former Bachelorette contestant revealed that he and Michelle fought before doing all of the press appearances and other such things, and that everything was building up for him, which ultimately led to their breakup. Nayte said that they were having late-night discussions and that the weekend had not been good for them. He also said that he had spoken to her friends, who were also not having a good time. In a word, nobody in Los Angeles enjoyed themselves that weekend.

On the final day in Los Angeles, according to Nayte, they were kind of talking about breaking up, and it wasn't the first time they had had breakup chats. They were likely on their third breakup talk. Explaining how their first break-up conversation played, Nayte shared that after they got engaged and everything was going well, something happened and they both stopped clicking and the communication broke. Nayte said that it was hard for him to understand because he thought the world of Michelle and she was phenomenal and all he could think of was what was happening at that moment and said that he fell in love with this woman.

Nayte clarified that he's not saying she turned into this awful person; he's simply saying it wasn't the same very soon. After everything was said and done, after the engagement, after they began living their normal lives, things suddenly began to change. He was a little spooked out by the fact that their first quarrel occurred on January 1 and the second day as well, so he called Rodney Matthews screaming and pleading for guidance at six in the morning.

When asked why he did not move to Minnesota with Michelle Young, Nayte Olukoya stated that he was supposed to move to Minnesota but did not because he needed to figure out the situation and how he felt with Michelle before moving closer to her and telling her that moving to Minnesota will be put on hold while they figure out the relationship and compatibility. Nayte shared that they had only known each other for a few months, and they were engaged. He did want to live with her and want everything with her, but according to him, they needed to focus on the relationship. That's why he didn't move in March, because of the conversation that he had with her in early January.

Nayte said that even though they had amazing moments, their relationship was always on the rocks. It was tough as there were a lot of ups and downs, lots of arguments, fights, and just not clicking and not seeing things eye to eye. In June, Nayte said that when the weekend was really bad for them, he just knew that he had to do what was best for them, which was to split up.

He admitted during the conversation that he couldn't do anything to stop Michelle from feeling blindsided by his choice to split if she did, but he knew that they had previously discussed about going their separate ways, and he added that the day he left L.A, it was almost like their third almost-breakup. After her birthday weekend, it was sort of already being stated without being spoken. Nayte recalled and shared that he left Los Angeles feeling every emotion from being lost to bewildered, and he rang up his mother and cried over the call explaining her how was he feeling and how things were not really working out between the two of them.

He noted that the CMA Awards were the very following weekend and recalled that during their talk, he indicated that he doesn't feel comfortable going to the CMAs and told her that he is not going to the CMAs. He then gave his perspective at the time. When Nayte was traveling to Austin, Michelle Young was still on the plane, and he called his mother while sobbing, followed by his friends when he finally realized that the relationship was no longer working. Nayte stated that he made the decision not to attend because of something that occurred before Wango Tango.

Nayte said that when Michelle called him up, he was in a terrible mood and sobbing on the phone with his mother. He mistakenly assumed that she had just returned home, but she was still at the airport, which only serves to make the situation worse. The former Bachelorette alum recalled that when Michelle instructed him to offer a reason for why they wouldn't be attending the CMA Awards the next week, he simply blurted out that he couldn't be with her any longer. Nayte concluded that it was a dick move on his part to break up with her over the phone.

Nayte said that the former couple engaged in a lot of late-night conversations, texting, phone calls, FaceTimes, and other similar activities after their split, which made things complicated. Midway through July, their communication came to a stop and said that breakups are awful and concluded that although difficult, it was the correct thing to do. Nayte cited several factors for the split, such as the fact that they are two distinct people from two very different worlds, insecurity played a role, and the need to always be faultless.

Michelle and him at the beginning of that relationship, was probably one of the most beautiful things he has ever experienced and said that they had so much fun adding that he misses the Michelle he fell in love with but is not sure the miss the Michelle he broke up with. Soon after, Nayte refuted claims that he cheated on his partner in a post on his Instagram Story. It's a topic he also described on the show. He also said that he's a great man and added that the negativity and outright hate surrounding him during the divorce has been "hurtful."

Nayte said that sure, guys could think that he looks like a fuck boy or that he is a fuck boy, but after you get to know him, you'll see that's not the case. Nayte said that he finds such a lifestyle to be ridiculous and loves relationships. Nayte admitted to having two committed relationships and added that he does not enjoy the entire lifestyle of hopping from person to person to person and he would rather just have a partner, he told presenter Nick Viall.

Nayte first believed the person to be Michelle since he was "over over heals" for her. He claimed that he merely remembered thinking that he was prepared to spend the rest of his life with her. Nayte came to the conclusion that he had never experienced the emotions he did. This is something that will absolutely last. In previous relationships, such emotions never fully surfaced, but with Michelle, they did so with relative ease.
