The American rapper Nicki Minaj has once again found herself in a controversy after her Coronavirus vaccine-hesitancy tweets. The rapper recently claimed that she didn't attend one of the most important and biggest fashion events Met Gala 2021 because the show requires that each of its participants be vaccinated, for which she is not ready as she has not done proper research on the vaccine. She further went on to claim that a friend of her cousin after vaccination experienced swollen testicles with other side effects and was left impotent. She shared on social media, "My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied."

The flaming controversy on social media even earned her the attention of the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Chief Medical Advisor to the US President Dr. Anthony Fauci who dismissed all her claims in an interview saying, "There’s no evidence that it happens, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen. So the answer to your question is no." Fauci further added, "There's a lot of misinformation, mostly on social media, and the only way we know to counter mis- and disinformation is to provide a lot of correct information." He added "And to essentially debunk these kinds of claims, which may be innocent on her part. I'm not blaming her for anything but she should be thinking twice about propagating information that really has no basis."

The controversy did not end here as Minaj further claimed on Wednesday that Twitter locked her account after she shared her thoughts on the vaccine. She wrote on Instagram that she is unable to use her account as she is in “Twitter jail” because “they didn’t like what I was saying.”
