American actress and former television host, Olivia Munn, has recently opened up about her romance with an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer, John Mulaney during her interview with the Los Angeles Times. Olivia Munn gets candid about how her relationship with John Mulaney became a matter of public interest and how that has created "false narratives" around it.
Olivia Munn says, "It's definitely not foreign for me to have people speculate incorrectly about things and to have rumors run rampant in one way or another." The couple started dating in May 2021, after actor John Mulaney decided to split from his wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler.
For the announcement of the couple's decision to go separate ways, Anna Marie Tendler, in a statement, said, "I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery". It was later reported that Olivia Munn and John Mulaney are going strong and the actress has been sneaking into some of John’s shows and loves them. The source added that both John Mulaney and Olivia Munn have connected over sharing a very dry sense of humor, and the actress is smitten.
It was later reported in September 2021 that the couple is expecting a child together, and John Mulaney confirmed the news on Late Night With Seth Meyers. He said, "I went to rehab in September. I got out in October. Furthermore, I moved out of my home with my ex-wife. Then, in the spring, I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia. Olivia Munn told Access after the news of their pregnancy was announced, "Just the outpouring of love and support has been really amazing. There has been a huge mom tribe that comes up. I’ve heard about it, but it's come up in full force. There’s a great dad tribe too; everyone who comes up is supportive, and it means so much to me".
An insider close to Anna Marie Tendler said, "John was using Anna Marie to protect himself. But still, she was very heartbroken that he decided to end her marriage. She was heartbroken about how it went down. It wasn’t something that she wanted, she wanted to work it out. I am sure this news about the pregnancy will be very difficult for her".
John Mulaney has a history of substance abuse and has usually acknowledged this in his stand ups routine. The stand-up comedian had shared that he has been sober since 2005 but checked into a rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania for alcoholism, cocaine addiction, and prescription drug abuse in 2020.
One of John Mulaney's friends said that the actor suffered a lot during the lockdown last year. Adding to the statement the friend added that his ex-wife, "Anna Marie moved to Washington, DC, to work at the Smithsonian on a project, and he was back in NYC and out of control. He was DM’ing women on Instagram for hookups—whether he went through with anything, we don’t know—and by December, he’d fallen off the wagon again and was abusing drugs and alcohol. This all followed a pattern—he and Anna Marie would break up and get back together again, he'd get wasted, and then he’d beg her to take him back. Sometimes, he told friends that he was so wasted that he had no recollection of even talking to these women. "

But recently, the actress, Olivia Munn, shared with The Los Angeles Times that her beautiful relationship with John Mulaney was ripped apart as a result of public scrutiny, especially after reports came out that she was the reason John Mulaney broke up with his ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler. On this, Olivia Munn explained, "They think they know our relationship so well. When in reality, they don't. There's no way anyone could know what any of his relationships were or what our relationship is".
The actress went on to explain that she will not act on any specific claims because it will only add to the false narrative since people tend to ignore really specific public signs and actions that completely contradict the false narrative. She finally added, "For whatever reason, it's easier to blame me."
Olivia Munn, an alum of New Girl, shared that she has decided not to address certain rumors and added, "If I try to say anything, I run the risk of being called messy or not telling the truth. The only way to win, for me, is to pull back and to not play the game at all. "
The source close to the couple shared in October that Olivia’s friends believe that although she is going to be a wonderful mother and has the great support of John Mulaney, her family, and friends, they don’t think that the couple will last longer. The source added, "Olivia and John still have to decide what kind of future they’re going to have together, if any. It’s a time of uncertainty for both of them. "
Olivia Munn is currently focusing on motherhood and added, "Becoming a mom was always more important to her than settling down conventionally. She's a real feminist and doesn't need a man by her side 24/7, she never had". She also shared that public scrutiny is one of the reasons she decided to keep her pregnancy milestones mostly to herself. She said in the interview, "There’s this vulnerability that I feel that makes me want to... just turn everything off." I’d rather close the door on that and just take care of myself and my baby".
