The French actor who rose to fame with Netflix’s global hit series ‘Lupin’, Omar Sy, has signed a multiyear feature film deal with Netflix. The multi-year feature film deal with Netflix will see the actor’s unnamed Paris and Los Angeles based production company develop original films for the streaming platform as an executive producer. Omar Sy will star in the movies as well.

The Lupin actor has also helmed the role of a creative producer for a couple of episodes of the successful show, mentioning that he has personally experienced how the streaming platform collaborates with artists and their passion to bring unique and diverse stories across the world under one platform for the entire world to consume.

Omar said, "I am happy to have the opportunity to extend the relationship and look forward to this next step of our journey together." Omar has been a part of critically acclaimed movies, including ‘The Intouchables", for which he received the César Award for Best Actor as the first black recipient of the award. He has also appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jurassic World, Two Is a Family, Chocolat, Inferno, and Transformers: The Last Knight.

Some people see this multi-year feature film deal between Netflix and Omar as a sign of the streaming platform’s commitment to producing and giving artists and makers a chance to make strong local-language original series and features for the world. Netflix’s French film output includes features like Alexandre Aja’s Oxygen, The Last Mercenary, Friendzone and Madame Claude.

Sy, in collaboration with Lupin’s director, Louis Leterrier, is gearing up for an action-comedy film titled, ‘Tour de Force’, which will star Omar Sy, Laurent Lafitte and will be released in 2022. There have been no more details about finances or specific projects related to the multi-year feature films.

Netflix France’s Director, Gaelle Mareschi said in a statement, "We have been lucky enough to have worked closely with Omar for a number of years and are excited to now expand our partnership further to bring his creative vision to our global audiences."

Omar Sy in Lupin plays the character of Assane Diop, who is inspired by a thief in Arsène Lupin's French story. Lupin went on to be Netflix’s one of the most successful global series to date, which was created by George Kay. Louis Leterrier directs lupin’s first three episodes. Last month, Omar Sy was the only Frenchman to be included in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people on the planet.

Bradley Cooper, an actor and director who is currently writing a short screenplay about the French actor, said, "Omar has all the ingredients and all the skills to do it all – production, direction, etc. – and he does so with an open and generous heart. If there’s one thing to remember, it’s her kindness. Space when you’re with him".

Netflix also signed a deal with Steven Speilberg’s production company Amblin Partners in June for multi-feature movies per year. The partnership between Netflix and Steven Speilberg is a significant achievement for the streaming platform because Speilberg is regarded as one of the most critically acclaimed directors in the history of movie-making.
