Regé-Jean Page might have moved on from Simon Basset, but the audience has not.

During the premiere of his upcoming movie, "The Gray Man," Regé-Jean Page shared with Variety that the producers and makers of Netflix’s successful and popular show "Bridgerton" can replace or recast the Duke of Hastings moving forward.

Regé-Jean Page said that they are allowed to carry it out whatever way they see fit for Duke of Hastings in future. At the end of season one, Shonda Rhimes, the show's executive producer, had a lovely talk with him and he revealed that everyone was generally satisfied with how they handled that particular situation. The actor, who has been appreciated by the audience for his exceptional work and on-screen presence, said that he is very grateful that he played the Duke of Hastings, who was at first an unbending suitor of Daphne Basset, played by actress Phoebe Dynevor, but eventually gets married to her and they do fell in love.

Regé-Jean Page shared during the interview that the team did so well on the redemption arc of Simon Basset that the audience sort of forgot that he was kind of a horrific person. Regé added that Simon was the best example of a Regency fuckboy that any of the individuals would have come across. The actor also mentioned that because of that arc, it seemed like the story came around full circle and the ending seemed perfect, which left everyone with a great feeling. He finally added that sometimes such stories need to be ended just like the way they did and called it a brave move.

On asking if he had the time to catch up with season two of Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page said that he had not watched the second season yet but hopefully would catch up soon. This is not the first time that the actor was asked about returning to the show, as just last month, a publication printed that Regé-Jean Page and the makers of the show were talking about his probable return to the show for season three. But later, Regé-Jean Page clarified in the comments that he had no plans to do that because he was very clear that he’d be leaving the show after one season.

In April 2021, Regé-Jean Page said that the show has a one-season arc which has the beginning, middle, and end, and explained that he enjoyed doing that because it almost felt like he was a part of a limited series and he just did his part well, and after he left, the Bridgerton family rolls on. Regé said that he was excited for the story to go on without him and mentioned that there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking to the landing.

The makers did not address Duke of Hastings in season two but simply said that he was at home taking care of the baby where as recently Hannah Dodd was announced as the actress who will be taking over the character of Francesca Bridgerton from Ruby Stokes in the show’s upcoming third season.

Talking about The Gray Man, in which Regé-Jean Page stars along with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling and plays the character of Denny Carmichael, who is a CIA chief hell-bent on capturing Ryan Gosling’s dejected spy. He mentioned that for playing a bad guy in the movie, he just took all the things he liked about himself and everything one can get from self-esteem classes as a kid and put them in a box, tied it up, and just hid it. He finally added that it was a delight and hopefully the audience would love it.

Regé-Jean Page spoke to Entertainment Tonight and said that he feels honored to be working with such a great actors and directors and added that filming the movie was a lot of fun experience for him. He added that when you go on set of Russo Brothers who according to the actor can pull off pretty much anything one can imagine, which makes it fun again. He continued that on sets there are no limits to one's imagination, no limits to what's possible, and we come out with this.

The Russo brothers also mentioned earlier that unlike Regé-Jean Page’s character on Bridgerton, his character in The Gray is different and revealed that they had watched him on Bridgerton and were highly impressed, and then on Saturday Night Live and thought that he was charismatic, compelling, and fun to watch, which according to them was a perfect description of a villain.

Beginning on Friday, "The Gray Man" will have a brief run in theaters before making its Netflix premiere on July 22. Alfre Woodard, Dhanush, Jessica Henwick, and Ana de Armas, are also featured in the movie.
